  1. Very sorry to hear about Ripley. I got to meet him several times at the Hall of Fame, such a sweet boy and a great ambassador for greyhounds.

    Larry

Larry was a very special boy. I'm glad we got to have him in our home for the short time we did before sending him on to Adrianne. He blossomed with their family and his little buddy Ollie. Run Free Larry!
  6. I just can't believe it, it's not fair! I'm so glad Larry had your family these last few months. You've given him a wonderful life.
  7. We tried Wellness and all 4 of ours had what can only be described as huge, foamy piles of poop. It was ugly. The owner of the place we bought it said she's heard other greyhound owners say basically the same thing. My husband, who's generally pretty clueless about what we're feeding, even knows the name Wellness!
  8. Poor Larry! Rocky got attacked by a declawed, white fluffy cat in our backyard once. He got bitten on the leg and it abscessed. Nasty! You'll probably be OK just putting antibiotic cream on it and watching it. What I want to know is where was Ollie in all this!

    Goodbye Gladys

I'm sorry you lost Gladys. I remember her when she came in. She was a really sweet, beautiful girl.
  10. That sucks (an understatement). I'm so sorry.
  11. We had a foster get nailed by a stray cat in our yard. Ear was bleeding like crazy. I put his bellyband around his head and tied it with a bandana as a quick fix to stop blood from spraying everywhere. Worked great and the vet could hardly find the cut when I got him there. We keep a belly band and a bandana in the drawer by the door just in case it ever happens again.
  12. I'm so sorry Diane. Run free sweet Princess. You were a special girl.
  13. I'm so sorry to hear about Perry. He had such a wonderful home with you.
  14. I'm so sorry for your loss. Jack wasn't an offspring of Flying Oak, was he? Reason I ask is that we've has similar issues with his offspring. They can have all sorts of funky issues during & after surgery. No idea what the cause is, we just treat with Amicar before and after surgery and make sure someone is with them for at least 24 hrs post surgery, if not longer.
  15. Maddy did this too. She wasn't thunderphobic when we got her, but now can be. She isn't always, it's sort of hit or miss. I just tell her she needs to lay down and chill out - that she's not afraid of storms. She looks at me like "I'm not??" She was a brood on a farm in Kansas, I'm sure she saw more than her share of thunderstorms.
  16. We love the Petzlife! I use the gel w/ a soft toothbrush. It took all the tarter off of Maddy's teeth and made a big dent in Rocky's. Even Molly, who has horrid teeth, has had a big improvement. We recommend it to all of our adopters, and hear nothing but positive results. When we do M&G's at one of the pet stores here that sells it they usually end up selling out we promote it so much.
  17. I don't have any experience, but I was just at a talk by one of the leading holistic / western med vets here in town and she was saying that they've found there can be a relationship between seizures and food allergies. Said she recommends a grain free food to seizure dogs and they have had some success in reducing / stopping seizures by changing food. Like I said, no personal experience but maybe another thing to consider / try?
  18. We had a mini dachshund who was built the same as Ollie. Heidi ran around the yard, house, etc. 99% of her day like a total fool. Full out running after her ball. And, she was the stoutest dachshund I've ever seen. That dog got more exercise than most dogs and was always a chunkster. Never found anything wrong with her and she lived to a good old age. She also could have cared less about food. She ate the bare minimum she needed to survive. So, it may not be that Ollie is eating too much. Maybe just her body type? I'm sure Ollie will have a quick recovery. They're tough little hounds. Heidi once pulled her front leg out of the socket while playing ball and still wanted us to keep throwing it! She was pretty sure she could keep playing on 3 legs. Feel better soon Ollie!!
  19. Just now seeing this. Hoping it's nothing serious! Kelly
  20. We went through this last September with Mimi at 15. It's really hard to make the decision to let them go when there isn't really anything wrong with them. Mimi was really alert, still eating, etc. But she was having trouble walking, peeing & pooping in the house all the time and kept getting herself stuck places when we were at work, no matter how we tried to contain her. It was hard right up until the end, and I think if either of us had waivered the other would have caved and put it off. But, as hard as it was I still find I'm at peace with our decision. I didn't want to come home and find she'd broken a leg being stuck somewhere. PM or email me if you want to talk about it.
  21. Poor Boy! I don't have any suggestions on the itching, other than Benadryl. What kind of food is he eating? Could that be part of the problem w/ his skin / allergies?
