  1. I sympathize. We went through the same thing with Mimi. It's totally exhausting. Have you tried Benadryl before bed? I'd do it all over again though to have her back.
  2. I'm so sorry Kass was a special girl.

    Grief

I'm so sorry I lost Rocky in January and it still hurts every day. I was just crying thinking about him this morning. Rocky and my mom in the same year was just too much. I'm so glad I got to meet him, he was a really special boy. We could all tell it in just the short time we got to know him.
  4. I'm so sorry Pal had to leave you. I know he'll live on in all of our memories. Such a sweet, wonderful boy.
  5. I'm so sorry you lost sweet MiMi. I know she enjoyed every minute with the campers. Run free sweet MiMi, no "GRRRRRing" at your new friends across the bridge
  6. We had a greyhound mix we got from a shelter in the middle of nowhere that had the same sort of thing from his neuter at the shelter. We were all freaking out when we saw it. It took time, but it eventually went away. I can't imagine it felt very good until it did though.

    Ice

So sorry for your loss. I know Ice and your dad are taking care of each other.
  8. I'm so sorry you lost your boy. It's obvious how well loved he was and how much he'll be missed.
  9. I'm so very sorry What a handsome, wonderful boy he was.
  10. I probably have a million pictures of Rocky in this position, staring at me: I miss him.
  11. Maddy (white dog) sheds like crazy. Always has. Oddly enough Wingnut (black) sheds pretty heavily even though he's got a slick, shiney coat. I could furminate an entire dog's worth of hair of Maddy every single day. It's everywhere.
  12. I'm so sorry about Bijou. She was a beautiful girl. It's obvious that you were meant to find each other.
  13. I do adoptions, and we would completely understand your returning him under the circumstances. For whatever reason, he's not a good match to your home. I'd be concerned about his behavior with the cats, and about biting your husband. I'd look into a slightly older dog, or maybe a return. My husband never had dogs growing up, so when we adopted our first greyhound the fact that she was 8 wasn't a bad thing for us. I told him if he absolutely hated having a dog, by adopting a senior we weren't setting ourselves up for the same time commitment as having a 2 yr old. Of course, a month later we got a crazy 2 yr old right off the track, but he was already sucked in by that point This doesn't sound like a situation where you're failing him or trying to take the easy way out. If no one is happy, it's just not a good match. No one's fault, sometimes that's just how it is.
  14. My boys have always been great. I took Rocky everywhere, hotels, friend's houses, etc. and he never peed inside anywhere. Wingnut has been here since Jan. and has never marked or peed in the house. Jeramie marked twice the first 2 days, but since he was neutered he's been mark free. We dog sit and foster and I'll tell you we've had WAY more girls come into the house and mark than boys. And they always march right over and pee on a dog bed (or two). I never had male dogs growing up because my mom always thought boys peed in the house. After I got Rocky, my mom ended up with 2 boys as her next two dogs And, if they do want to mark it's much easier to slap a bellyband on a boy for a day or two than it is to put pants on a girl.
  15. I'd think it could be. Food is easy to change and usually cheaper than trying a bunch of stuff at the vet. It's probably not going to hurt him to try a different food. I'd try grain free with a different protein than he's eating now.
  16. Mimi was greatly improved after about 2 weeks, but I think it took over a month before she was almost completely back to normal. The head tilt lingered slightly for a month or so.
  17. I'm so sorry, I can't believe I'm just now seeing this. Zeke was such a wonderful boy. I'm going to miss seeing his pictures and hearing all about him. I know there was quite a welcoming party waiting for him.
  18. If you can unzip the cover on the temperpedic, you can put a bed cover inside. I did that when Molly had a UTI and was having accidents when we were at work. Had to wash the cover and the pad but the bed insides stayed clean. If you do have to do bad girl pants, I'd use kids Pull ups or something absorbent under the pants. Helps keep them drier too.
  19. Mimi chewed wood from when we got her at age 8 until she died at age 15. For the longest time we blamed our younger hound until we caught her in the act. She chewed the footboard of our bed, both of our Pottery Barn end tables, an antique dresser, new tv stand, etc. It irritated me at the time but now I look at those places and think of her. She was always so proper and non-doggy in every other way. For her I think it was just something to do.
  20. Definitely doesn't seem like the Boston is enjoying it toward the end! I have all non-barkers. I never heard Mimi or Rocky bark. Molly will whine and howl but no barking.
  21. Costco also sells the big bag. I can't remember how much it is.
  22. They make something called Flavor-Doh for pets that we've had some success with. Molly is very suspicious that we're trying to poision her (frequently dumps her food bowl on the floor so she can check out the kibble) and she will take pills in it. My friend's dog who won't take pills in anything else will snarf down the Flavor-Doh. Of course the dog I'm dog sitting now will have nothing to do with it, but it might be worth a shot.
