One thing I've had good luck with as far as getting dogs to eat is canned Merrick Grammies Pot Pie. I've only had like 1 dog refuse to eat that. Scrambled eggs might tempt her too. There's a Treats Unleashed on Manchester in Des Peres that carries the Merrick.

Depending on how long she's up there, I can go visit. I just live right down the street from VSS. I went and saw Maple a couple of times for Leann since she didn't live close. She had to call and give them permission for me to visit and to ask what time. She thought with Maple that it might be easier for her to see someone she knew, but not necessarily someone she expected to go home with. She also visited her a couple of times.

Hi Kim! I'm glad she's doing ok so far! I think if your regular vet does chemo you can take her there and have it done. Some vets don't do chemo. I would think at your regular vet they'd be more likely to give her more personal attention than at the specialist. Just make sure that your vet is familiar with it and knows the possible side effects of some of the drugs, etc.. If they're not, email me and I can give you the name of the vet I use who does a lot of chemo and you could do a consult with her to see what you think. Kelly

Our vet normally does them after the dental if there have been extractions, but not before unless the teeth are really scummy. Maddy got them because she'd split her gum open and he did a dental while he fixed it. Molly has horrid teeth even though she gets a dental almost every year and we brush nightly. She gets bacteria built up around her teeth, so we did antibiotics for a couple of days before just to be safe.

I just had one vet give me amoxicillin and another give me clavamox, both for dentals. I was just having a discussion w/ our director this morning that it seems like the vets are prescribing amoxicillin more than they used to. We sort of went through a period where they seemed to not give it very much, but we've had several dogs at several different vets get it lately.

I agree with everyone else. Rocky never marks, ever. He's stayed in hotels, at friend's houses, been to meet & greets in shopping malls, clothing stores, book stores, etc. He's about as reliable of a non-marker as you're ever going to find. Petsmart & Petco? Instantly wants to pee on EVERYTHING. I just keep him on a short lead and keep an eye on him.

One of our adopters had a senior boy who had a really weak back end. They live in an older house with hardwood floors, which caused him lots of problems. She's a contractor so she figured out she could use a product made to re-coat plier handles, etc. She got the MSDS sheet and checked with her vet (who is a holistic as well as western medicine vet) and she OK'd it as being safe. They used - Plasti Dip by Performix. Said you can buy it at any big box store. They brushed it on about every 7-10 days, and it needs about 20-30 minutes to dry. I think they even used popsicle sticks to apply it. She said it's a bit messy so she needed to put towels down and also hold the pads a bit apart as it dries. They said it did wonders for him on the floors. He felt secure and they even got rid of all the throw rugs. I think he was about 14-15 and had LS.

My vet does a shot clinic at one of the Petcos here. I think it's like $18 for 1 year rabies (we only do rabies), and the cost for the other shots / heartworm test is fairly inexpensive as well. I asked him how much it is to do the shots in the office and it's a $50 office visit plus like $40 for the rabies shot. Insane mark up. We have a lot of adopters who've started going to the Petco shot clinics. It's usually people with multiple dogs who see their vets a fair amount anyway and don't want to spend a fortune for shots.
