  1. Here at my house the dogs are not allowed on the couch. But here is my 2 cents worth. Is it possiable that he was sleeping when you startled him? Sure. Could he have been only half alseep? Maybe, but I don't know. I wasn't there when it happened. Maybe for awhile he not be allowed up on the couch at all. Then maybe after a few week break start slowly inviting him back up on the couch. But then make him get off after say 10 or 15 mintues. it sounds like maybe he need more couch boundries and when it approrite for him to be on the couch with his humans. But for now I would not let him on the couch with you at all.
  2. A pool noodle would work too! be prepare for them to take forever to heal!
  3. My boy Fast doesn't want to go and go potty their. And he was last out at 11 am. I tried at 2:30 when I got back fro the vet with Angel. And my dad just tried a few mintues ago. But he just wont go cuz it's so cold.
  4. wow! I can't believe little JillyBean's been gone a year!
  5. Recently my almost 11 year old Angel has developed some kidney issues. It started a month ago. with her not wanting to eat, panting heavy, and having a fever. So I took her to the vet. And they started her on a course of antibotics for a infection in her mouth of a possable UTI she had. And she seemed better after a round a antibotics. When she was at the vet last month she was also down to 71 pounds too. So fast forward to the last week. On Dec 8 I ended taking her to the e-vet for the same issue as last month. And they did blood work and took some urine as well. It showed she had a infection or inflammation going on. So we started her on another round of clovimox. but fast forward to past weekend. Saturday morning she was displaying all of the same signs as her previous 2 vet trips. So we took her in to our normal vet and her temp at 104.9 which is very high! They gave her a shot of antibotic and they had us meet them back at the office on Sunday for a another shot. And her temp yesterday was actually pretty normal 100.8! So they vet was very happy about that! Our vet suspects she is losing protein, but way she is. He doesn't know why. My vet is very greyhound savy. He had a greyhound for many years. So right now we have her on a home prepared diet for dogs with kidney issues. And she seems to be liking it. this is the recipe we were given by a friend who's dog was in kidney failure when they got her. And she ate this recipe for 7 or 8 years and did really well on it. 1/2 cup regular fat hamburger- can substitute ground turkey or organ meat occassionally 2 3/4 cup cooked white rice 1 egg 2 tablespoons cold pressed safflower, soy or corn oil 600 milligrams calcium 1/8 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons parsley or carrot of any other veggies 1/2 to 1 clove garlic for flavor dog vitamins for a medium size dog 20 milligram level B comlpex 5,000 IU vit. A 1,000 milligrams vit C Your supposed to bake it all except for the vitamins for 20 minutes. And then after it's baked mix in the vitamins. But if any one has any other recipes for a dog with kidney problems, I'm open to them! or any suggestion, I'm open to those too!
  6. I'm sorry to hear your guy was diagnosed with Kidney disease. My 10 and half year old female was recently diagnosed with the early stages of Kidney disease. So I'm curious what people have to say.
  7. My old guy Fast hasn't been finishing his breakfast in the morning too. But after her goes for his morning walk around 10 am with the daddy man. He finishes his food about a hour later.
  8. Hugs to you both! I remember the littermate to my girl Angel had Seizures. He ended up going to Northcoast Greyhound Connection in the Indiana/Ohio area. His racing name was My Mohegan Sun And he went by the name of Sunny. He was fostered by Suszie Q here on Greytalk. And if I remember right they found a holoistic vet that was able to insert gold bead under his skin to help with the Seizures. And if I remember right it did help until he had a massive grand mal seizure.
  9. Our beloved Freddie is now back home! Annie went to pick him up on Friday! Oh Freddie! We sure do miss you! It still seems weird not to see you peeking around the corner when you hear us talking about you!
  10. My male Fast had happy tail as well. Dispite the vet saying it was healing, it wasn't so I forced the vet's office to amputate it. It was only then did his tail actually heal. When ended up having to keep his muzzle with a poop guard on him for 2 weeks since he ripped the stitches out after 2 days and 3 diffrent cones!
  11. It is with a very heavy heart and lots of tears that I post about Freddie's passing! Freddie was dignosed back in May with heart failure and fluid in his lungs. Annie and her vet started him 2 meds in hopes of buying him more time. Over the last 2 months Freddie had his good days and he had his bad days. But even when he was having a bad day he could always manage a smile for Annie! Freddie was a smiler! But it became evident that Freddie was on a down hill slide starting last week friday. They were able to up his meds but that still wasn't helping by monday of this week. And he had been getting Annie up at 1:30 am the last few days to go potty and that wasn't like Freddie at all! And then Tuesday into Wensday is when he got worse. He got her up at 1:30 and and then a hour later. And he hasn't been comfortable most of this past week and he had been pacing a lot too. By Wensday morning it was clear that Freddie was ready to go. He looked at her and she knew it was the right thing to do. She didn't want him to suffer and it was clear that he was done fighting his illness's. So we meet Annie and Zach at the vet Wensday afternoon and helped Freddie cross over! Freddie has been the most amazing hound you could ever ask for! He spent the last 8 wonderful years with our family! And I wouldn't trade a minute of it for anything! Freddie has done lots of events for GPA over the years. And everyone just loved him! He was one of one in a million hounds! And if it weren't for one of our own GPA adopter's who knew Freddie's trainer. We wouldn't have met him at all! Run free Freddie! We love and miss you very much! WJS Fredrick 02/08/01 to 07/31/13

I'm soo sorry Trudy and Jeff! Run free sweet girl!
  13. They were both getting antibotics after there dentals. And they were on rice and hambuger for a total of 3 weeks after there dentals. I did call the vet. I we did have fecals done on both of them And there wasn't anything there. So that a good sign, I think? So now we are starting endosorb along with a bland diet. And I guess so how that goes. If that doesn't help they said we could get metronidazole for them. But to try the endosorb first.
  14. Both of my hounds Angel and Fast had dentals on March 27th. They were both on food restrictions of rice and hambuger along with a loaf style canned food for 2 weeks. Well that has came and gone. They had 2 week recheck on april 10. And everything was good. So our vet had us start mixing there dry food back in over the course of a week. And all was good. Untill the end of last week. They both started having really bad diarrehea. It's gotten so bad that my dad has threatened to stop walking them untill we get this diarrhea situation figured out. At first we thought it was the canned dog food that I got from pet store. So we stopped that. And that didn't help. We also stopped giving them the treats I bought them at the arts and craft show. And that didn't help either. We also stopped the store bought treats I bought at one of our groups meet and greets, And I know I've bought this brand before with no problems. Right now they are getting Beggin strips for treats, yes I know. There not the best. But I didn't have a chance to bake treats for them since my best friend endded up in the hospital this weekend. And she's still there right now. Angel gets fed the Kirkland chicken, Rice and vegatable formula. And Fast gets fed Fromm's Chicken a la Veg. And they both get the canned dog food from costco. We've been giving them some canned pumpkin with there meals since thursday night. And we've also been trying to give them some cheese in hopes to stop the diarrhea. But nothing seems to be helping. Do I call the vet and see if I can bring fecal samples on both of them. I'm just kinda at a loss on what to do with this situation! I need some help guys!
  15. I have a WWW harness for Angel too. As far as I'm concerned it's the best money I 've spent. I tried the easy walk harness for her. It it only helped a little bit. So I tried the WWW on the recomedation of good friend who has been using them on her hounds for years.
  16. My now 10 year girl Anel was diagnosed with spay incontinece at the age of 7 or 8, I don't remember which one any more. She's been on Proin since her diagnose with no probelms.
  17. That's awesome news Judy! I'm glad to hear that he's doing soo much better! Clearly the Peeps are helping!
  18. Lately I've been making my own treats for my hounds. I've been doing it becasue it seems that lately there has been so many recalls on dog treats and or dog foods. That I decided to bake my own treats for them. This is the recipe that i normally use 1 cup of of whole wheat flour 1 cup of white flour 1/4 of a cup of cornmeal 1/4 of Parmsean cheese 1/4 of cheddar cheese or whatever kind of cheese you like 1 large egg 3/4 of a cup of water Knead all the ingredients together in large bowel.I then wrap the in plastic wrap and then put in the freezer for about 30 minutes. It makes the dough easier to work with when it cold. I then rolled it on a floured mat and use a rolling pin that I rubbed a little bit of flour on, Roll the dough out untill it is about a quarter inch thick. Bake in a 325 degree oven for 30 minutes and then let cool. And then you can put them away. My dogs love these treats!
  19. You have to watch there treats too. I did find that some of there Jerky treats for dogs is made in China.
  20. I have one for Angel and it does seem to help her when we have a thunderstorm.
  21. I would have him check for a UTI. He could have some sort of infection going on. It's also possiable that he has incontience.
  22. You could also try giving her a small peanut butter sandwich. Just make him or her a half sandwhich.
