Canned Food From Costco
SarahsBlackPack replied to Busderpuddle's topic in Food and dietary discussion
We use it here as a kibble topper as well. My dogs love it! The Costco closest to me only has the Nature's Domain brand of canned food. -

Bernie's Anxiety/weight Loss/thyroid Saga
SarahsBlackPack replied to Laurenbiz's topic in Health and Medical discussion
if your are going to do a full panel with MSU make sure that you ask for a interpation along with it. We had a senior hound develop canine dementia. And after talking with our vet we started him on Fluoxtine and it worked well for him! -

My old guy Malone had it. We found that he was more restless at night and more wanting to be petted more at night. Our vet ran all sorts of blood work, we had x-rays done of his chest. And they found nothing. Our vet did take him overnight to see exactly what syptoms he was showing. And she said for a 12 year old hound he was pretty healthly, his heart was slightly enlarged. But that was it. And after confering with several other vets. The only thing she could call it was canine dementia. So we started him on Fluexatine and after about a month of being on it he was doing great!

Does she seem more agitated at night?

First Type Grey Owner.. Need Help!
SarahsBlackPack replied to a topic in Health and Medical discussion
I agree with both GeorgeofNE and Batmom! This dog seems to be in distress when closed in the crate. My first Greyhound that I adopted 15 years ago had sever crate anxiety and separation anxiety. We couldn't crate her. She would chew on the bars, she broke many teeth while she was crated. She ended up destroying a crate! So we ended up not crating her and she was fine. I also agree with what LazyBlaze said about leaving the crate door open with a baby gate room or maybe even a hallway! -

How Long Should This Take?!
SarahsBlackPack replied to greyhead's topic in Health and Medical discussion
I had Angel's urine cultured because she has kidney diease. And every few months she seems to have a flare up. where she doesn't want to eat., she has a fever. And drinks a ton of water. So my vets suggested having her urine cultured to make sure it wasn't some sort of infection going in her kidney's. And I took a urine sample to my vet 2 weeks ago today and I finally heard back from my vet last week wensday.- 21 replies

Milwaukee,wi Need Vet Recommendation
SarahsBlackPack replied to krissn333's topic in Health and Medical discussion
I have a friend who lives in West Allis. I can ask her which vet she uses? I know she uses one in New Berlin, which is isn't far at all. -
First of all congrats on your recent adoption! Seconadly, just give him some time to adjust. I wouldn't panic just yet. He's still adjusting to a new home. I would stick with just one food to start with and see how he does. I would try feeding him in his crate to see how he does. At the tracks they are fed in there crates. Just be patient with him. He'll be ok.

That sounds like a lot of protein to me. But then again I am no expert on dog food.

Advice For A Greyhound Puppy Please!
SarahsBlackPack replied to a topic in Training and Behavior discussion
Greyhound puppies are called landsharks for a reason! I don't think a greyhound puppy would be a good choice for a first time dog owner. Our family had the chance to adopt a greyhound puppy that was around 9 months a few years back. And we opted not to. Because even as expirenced as we are with greyhounds we knew we did want such a young dog. Angel was enough of a puppy when we adopted her back in 2006. And she almost 2 and half by the time I brought her home! -
I went with my sister Annie(greytone) and Eddi to the vet this morning. Seems that things are looking up for Eddi! Since we didn't know what she's had for shot. We wanted to find out all's been done with her. And as it turns out, she is up to date on all of her shots. The only thing she will need is Lepo in January of next year. But that's no big deal! We had them do blood work for a heartworm test since it didn't appear that she was on any while with her former owners. They also checked for tick born diease's as well. And I happy to report she is heartworm and tick born diease negative!!!!!!!!!!! But other than her teeth she appears to be in good shape. Her was good at 53.9 pounds. Annie wanted to talk with her hubby Zach to see when is a good time to make the appointment for her dental. But don't worry Annie is not gonna wait long at all!

We will for sure! Eddi is such a sweet girl!

Such sad news! I enjoyed reading his posts over the years! Godspeed Shawn!

Hi everyone! Greytone is my sister. We also found out some news for about Eddi on Thursday as well. We learned threw a friend. That when the owner died our local cops had to break into the house to gain entry. Since other owner wasn't home. Both dogs were taken to our local humane society until he was able to pick them up. so I'm sure both dogs have been truamaizted by the events of the past few weeks. I'm sure it's been a rough few weeks for both dogs. She is such a sweet girl though! My sister right her teeth are horrible! I will be going to the vet with my sister and Eddi on Tuesday since I kinda feel I owe it to her since I did help her get into this situation. I do think a lot of her whining is from her mouth hurting soo much. If my teeth looked as bad as her do I would be whining a lot too! I can honesty say her's are some of the worst I've ever seen in my almost 15 years of having greyhounds. And I've seen a lot of bad teeth from some of the dogs we've gotten off the farms. I also recommened that Annie take in a fresh stool sample to check for worms. And a urine sample to check for a UTI. We'll get her straightened out! Our family is committed to helping her settling in with my sister Annie(greytone) and her husband and Huey the non grey member of the family! I think it's gonna take some time!

Should I Get A Harness And If So Which One?
SarahsBlackPack replied to FluffyDuff's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
I have WWW/ Freedom Harness for Angel since she is such a strong puller. We used a Premier Easy walk harness for a short time. But she was still able to pull. She walks 100% when she is wearing her WWW harness.
