  1. So sorry for your loss. Rest well, Missy.
  2. I gave Comfortis and Heartguard Plus only 24 hrs apart for a few months with no ill effects. (The only reason I quit is because my vet stopped carrying Heartguard so we switched to Sentinel.) I am not an expert but from what I understand the amount of ivermectin in Heartguard is not high enough to pose an interaction threat when combined with Comfortis. My vet owns several greys and is extremely grey-savvy, so I trust her 100% on prescribing breed-appropriate drugs, though of course some meds might not agree with an individual dog. All that said, there's nothing wrong with an abundance of caution, so if you feel better spacing them out by 10 days, it can't hurt.
  3. The Safety Info in the package does say to discuss it with your vet before giving it to a dog with a history of seizures.
  4. Could he maybe have overdone it a bit (since you mentioned that two laps was more than usual) and was sore or just especially tired? I totally get how you're feeling, but you're right that you shouldn't take it personally. I think dogs have "off days" just like people do. Try to approach it like Wiley, who has likely forgotten it altogether! And remember that growling is a good thing and the dog's first line of communicating displeasure, not something you should punish.
  5. Very sorry for your loss. Rest well, handsome Haka.
  6. So very sorry for your sudden loss. Rest well, Dita.
  7. If you're not opposed to an oral flea preventative, I recommend Comfortis. You should give it right after a meal because it can cause nausea, and it's a pretty big pill so not the easiest to administer (apparently it doesn't taste like a treat!), but it is very effective. I have never seen a flea on Sweep in the year she's been on it.

  10. I am so very sorry for your loss. Rest well, Rickie.
  11. What a love he is! I am glad you found each other. Welcome, and congrats on your very handsome addition!
  12. As of 1/1/14, Dr. Carol Macherey at Grassmere Animal Hospital (Nashville, TN) has retired. The three other vets at the practice are also grey-savvy, however. I'd especially recommend Dr. Walter Clark, who co-owns the hospital with Dr. Macherey.
  13. And here's their anesthesia info: http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/gh_anesthesia.htm
  14. Here's the list from Grassmere's website; it is probably somewhat outdated since Comfortis is not on there, but they prescribed it for Sweep. Individually, any dog or cat can show an intolerance to any product, so when you try a new product it is always wise to observe your pet afterwards for any signs of a problem. If your individual Greyhound seems intolerant of something, look for a substitute. Remember to weigh the brief annoyance of an odor, itch, or slight redness from a topical treatment against the long-term problems from a flea or tick infestation. FLEA AND TICK PRODUCTS WE CARRY AND CAN RECOMMEND FOR YOUR GREYHOUND Advantage® - gives very good topical flea control Front Line's Top Spot® is commonly used on Greyhounds for both flea and tick control with topical drops Advantix® - a somewhat controversial flea/tick product but one that has been used very successful in many many Greyhounds. It contains permethrin, so is best not used around cats. Revolution® - another topical product that combines heartworm, flea, and some tick control, but may seem slow to work Sentinel® is an oral medication that combines excellent heartworm and intestinal worm protection with luferon, an ingredient that prevents flea eggs and larvae from developing. Preventic® collars are a tick-collar (does NOT kill fleas) that can be used on Greyhounds. Advantage Multi® - combines Advantage with another chemical to provide protection against heartworms, fleas, roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms with a monthly topical application. It does not treat for ticks. HEARTWORM PRODUCTS FOR YOUR GREYHOUND - We strongly recommend year-round heartworm protection for your Greyhound Interceptor® - a monthly oral chewable tablet that also protects against hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms Sentinel® - same as Interceptor, but with luferon added for some flea protection Revolution® - a topical monthly heartworm preventative Heartguard® - another safe monthly heartworm preventative Advantage Multi® - a new topical monthly preventative with added protection against fleas and intestinal worms
  15. Sweep's been on it for the past year. The first two doses, she did seem a bit "off" (possibly nauseated?) but she never had diarrhea or vomiting or anything quantifiable. She's been fine ever since, though, and I am always careful to give it immediately after a full meal. It works well; I have never seen a flea on her.
  16. I have wood stairs as well, and can recommend these stair treads. They have a latex backing, so no tape or nails are required to keep them in place, and they are machine washable and dryable. (I did not want to install anything more permanent since we're planning to sell our townhouse within the year.) I've had my hound a little over a year now, and she does great on the stairs with these treads. Some extra traction plus treats and patience will almost certainly solve your problem. Good luck, and congrats on your addition! As others have said, you will be amazed at what a different dog you have a year from now...he will blossom with time.
  17. So sorry for your loss. Rest well, Bishop.
  18. No advice, just glad you found the apparent cause so quickly and that Marlow is on the mend!
  19. Mine too. I have pulled more chicken bones out of Sweep's mouth than I can count. Makes me so mad, especially because it often happens at a nearby park with picnic areas and there are trash cans EVERYWHERE. That needlenose is just too perfect for finding a tasty morsel in a patch of long grass. Argh. Prayers for Marlow!
  20. My heart just breaks for you. I am so very sorry for your sudden loss and the sad circumstances. Rest well, Swiftie, secure in the knowledge that you were very much loved. Sending good, healing thoughts to you and Greta.
  21. So sorry for your loss. Rest well, little Tessa.
