  1. There is a FB forum, Greyhounds with Corns that may be helpful to you.
  2. She is only with you 2 wks? Is she right off the track?
  3. Have you tried probiotics for the bowel? I have started using "Vetri-Probiotic BD" by Vetri-Science with our Bess and there is some improvement. Another owner recommended it and also recommended getting it on Amazon for the best price. Also, canned pumpkin (not pie filling) added to the food is a good source of binding fiber.
  4. Eliza...I commend you for taking responsibility for your dogs' behavior but I, too, place the majority of the responsibility on the little dogs' owner. That dog was off leash, yours were on leash. And, I would be relieved and not upset that people avoid you if they see a muzzle on the dogs...it simply lessens the chances of another incident. YOU know your dogs are not dangerous and unless you want to be constantly explaining that to people, I would consider their reactions a time saver! Of course, if you are trying to promote the breed for adoption such as at a "meet and greet" you would need to make the time for explanations.
  5. Our grey was attacked by a dog while my husband was walking her. The dog got away from its' owner and bit Charlotte on the chest, ripping her skin. My husband DID have repellent with him and sprayed the other dog on its' way back to bite a second time. The damage was done but it prevented more. I never leave the house without it now. Bear in mind, though, you have to get close enough to the other dog and have the presence of mind to spray it right in its' face. May be difficult to manage during the commotion and of course the dog may come after you if you miss. Much better than nothing, though. We even had a law enforcement person recommend "bear" repellent which apparently is legal in our state whereas really useful dog repellent is not...
  6. Heaven is getting much too crowded...sincere condolences to you.
  7. Sound like you have had more than your share of experience, or are you in the medical field? I thank you again for your help!
  8. Heaven is looking better and better with all the good dogs we have loved and lost waiting for us. Our Charlotte left us July 14 and reminders of her are tearing at my heart. May these two new angels watch over us and help us cope. RIP, Zero.
  9. Is your girl having exteme and uncontrollable diarrhea? Charlotte had this onset very suddenly, pred slowed it down while she was in the e-vet but the dosage would have had to be constantly increased. Her poor skinny little butt was so raw and burned from the constant leakage...she had to be cleaned up every 30 minutes and her bones were so much more visible after less than 24 hours. Her appearance scared the bejesus out of us...we could not, in clear conscience, bring her home.
  10. How very true, but difficult to accept. We are NOT in charge of the world and all who are in it. We are NOT in charge of every single thing within arm's reach and everything beyond. We like to think we do the best we can, but we don't, not always. Even if we do, it often doesn't get us what we want or need. Sometimes we cannot think straight because other "stuff" is happening. Life interferes while we are making other plans, taking care of other business. We are humans, that is all. Our dogs are the divine ones. "Dog" spelled backwards is "god."
  11. What did the ultrasound show? We just went through this with our Charlotte and the ultrasound showed "Diffusely Thickened Walls and Layering Bowel Loop," as well as enlarged lymph nodes and spleen and fluid in the abdomen. From that the vets tentatively "diagnosed" either lymphoma or IBD but said they would have to do a colonoscopy for more confimation as well as take a sample of the abdominal fluid to see what kind of cancer cells (if it was cancer) were there. We chose to spare her from the surgery and let her go. It didn't seem to us there would be a simple solution and I spent days on Google, VetMD and WebMD trying to decipher the lingo and what it all meant. I got the best help and explanations from members of this forum who had struggled with the same issue..
  12. Thank you so very much for the reply, KF. So many people have told me we did the right thing by her and in my heart of hearts I know we did but that nagging feeling of "are you sure, are you really sure you didn't do it to save yourself aggravation and money and inconvenience?" is making me my own worst enemy.
  13. Thanks for sharing your sad story, Lynne. I am a bit more at peace that we didn't go for any heroics in treatments. Sure do wish our pups could talk to us...
  14. Thanks so very much, Lynne. May I ask what symptoms Timber was exhibiting for the 7 months it took to get the correct diagnosis? Jean
  15. May I ask what diagnostic tests you had done to discover intestinal cancer and what treatment did you go with?
  16. My most sincere and heartfelt sympathy, Beth. Godspeed, Murphy.
  17. When we lost our first two to osteo we took them for a last ride in the car and walk in the park. Neither were emergencies so we savored the moments. When we lost our Charlotte on the 14th of this month we knew we were going to say goodbye to her in the e-vet where she had been overnight. I brought the rest of the cooked chopped meat that I had made for her when we hoped the GI business that was her undoing was just a passing thing and could be fixed with the old rice and cooked beef remedy. She gobbled what she could but whatever monstrosity that was growing inside her prevented her from eating too much. My husband and I spent an hour in a room with her, hugging, kissing, praying and crying. We had wanted to take her for a walk around the grounds but it was miserably hot and we could not ask it of her. Do whatever you need to, to give your souls peace. You will be in all our minds and hearts, I am sure.
  18. Oh Lordy, I never considered the possibility of stereo howling...you are right. Maybe drugs are the way to go right now
