  1. We just lost our Bess on Tuesday and I have some leftover meds. Generally speaking, how long can I keep them in the event of issues with my other greys? I will donate them to our group for immediate use, perhaps with fosters if it is not feasible to store them myself. 1-Prednisone 10 mg 2-Cephalexin 500 mg 3-Vitamin B injections...syringe is filled to the "1" line, cap is marked "25 x 5/8 A, Monojet 250, Sterile Non-Toxic" The above meds were dispensed in Oct/Nov.2013. Then I have 4-Clindomycin, 150 mg from April 2013. Bess was on pulse therapy for dental issues and got these 5 days each month.. 5-Rimadyl 100 mg dispensed June 2012 6-Tramadol 50 mg dispensed June 2013 7-DES tiny tabs, 1 mg, dispensed Sept. 2012 8-Metronidazole 500 mg, dispensed July 2013. Thanks.
  2. Cerenia does come in tablets (60 mg.) but are indicated for prevention of acute vomiting according to the instructions on the box. No sure about usage for diarrhea. Thank you, Lord, for bald greyhound butts...!
  3. Wish I didn't have a thread to steal, Rachel. Please, feel free to ask any questions. If I can offer any help, I do so gladly. Jean
  4. We took her to the vet for the weight loss and fussiness eating...bloodwork showed very low red blood count. Next day, took her to specialist for ultrasound which revealed a mass in her intestines (in the middle, I think) that was inoperable because of the anemia (need protein in the blood to heal.) They put her on prednisone and Vitamin B shots as well as cerenia for nausea. She kept losing weight and when we lost her yesterday she was 48 lbs, from her all time high of 71 (several years ago.) I tried everything to keep her interested in food but whatever was growing inside her was sapping all the nutrients. I implore you to get some bloodwork done for starters.
  5. Second pup in less than 5 months left for heaven today...Bess joined Charlotte who paved the way in July. Ultrasound showed a mass which was the cause of the severe anemia and most likely, the weight loss that just wouldn't stop. She was on pred and Vitamin B for about a month and we knew it was a stalling move but still appreciated the extra time it bought us while we got used to the idea our 12 1/2 year old sweetie was going to be leaving us. Cooper, with us since early September when Charlotte died, is looking a bit bereft.
  6. How frightening for you and for Venus. So sorry to hear of this...praying for relief.
  7. Well, can you put a string under his chin and call him a balloon???
  8. I think you are asking for trouble here. He is not used to them, #1 and #2 for him to be alone for that amount of time and probably uncomfortable to boot is too much to ask, IMO. I am faced with a similar situation and cannot leave my old grey for a few hours to eat out. I don't mind missing a meal because I know she won't be around much longer and to have bad memories because I go out and enjoy myself while leaving her alone it not something I am willing to do. If at all possible, take him with you by introducing the two pups first, or arrange for dogsitting. Besides, do you really want to come home from a nice day and possibly have to clean up a mess?
  9. Good idea about the camera. I am hesitant to confront people directly so would ask the police to get involved and make a record of it. Not sure if they would want to be bothered but hopefully you would get an animal-loving officer who can let the guy know you are seriously concerned.
  10. Cabbage water is greasy if the cabbage is being cooked with, say corned beef or spareribs. Your neighbor wants to avoid a plumbing bill for blocked up pipes.
  11. An ultrasound may be more valuable than xrays...costs more but he may need one if nothing shows up in xrays so I would get that done.
  12. Many moons ago our older, spayed Zoe flooded our bed...in a panic I dragged her to the vet who (of course) found nothing wrong. I think he put her on DES for a while. Currently, Bess flooded our living room but she is on Prednisone for issues and this is to be expected. My fault for leaving her 5 hours. And this is why our dogs are not allowed on the furniture...Zoe was a rascal and would ignore me, knowing I would never stay mad at her. And I never did...
  13. I cooked up a batch of chicken thighs in the slow cooker last night and Bess ate the whole package today with some help from Cooper!!! Today was a good day! Tomorrow, who knows but I am going to the store for more thighs tomorrow. I cannot stand the smell of them cooking so I always add a couple of stalks of celery and some carrots to the water and it is manageable. She likes the broth, too. Also got Natural Balance venison and sweet potato (canned) and that was good for a while so I will try that again tomorrow.
  14. So, I should be on the alert for vomiting or inability to defecate?
  15. I am concerned about the possibility of this "mass" rupturing so I called the specialist yesterday. The doc said she saw no evidence of a possible rupture...it is situated pretty much in the middle of the small intestine. Thoughts?
  16. Thank you, Batmom...once again you have 'splained things nicely!
  17. Is this an over the counter or prescription drug? If OTC, what is the name? Don't need it now but want to keep it in my notes.
  18. Another thing about hardwood floors...they hightlight doggie drool very well...it is area carpets for us...!
  19. I called the specialist from Red Bank who treated her and she said the sub Q fluids are mainly for dehydration due to vomiting and since Bess stopped vomiting once the Cerenia kicked in (I guess that is what did it) they really are not indicated. HCT was 23.9%.
  20. I use plant stands to hold the10" bowls individually. Don't have room for some of those beautiful pieces of furniture that hold two bowls and have their names engraved on them! Has the added benefit of portability if I have to separate slow picky eaters from inhalers...I also use a larger plastic bowl to hold a smaller metal one for water...cuts down on backsplash.
  21. Thank you so much. I take it you did not wake Marty up after the surgery?
  22. I will check with the secondary vet we brought her to. The first vet doesn't seem interested anymore after we took her to the ER vet for the ultrasound rather than wait for the primary to get the portable ultrasound machine in, in 2 days time...I actually apologized to the guy when I told him we didn't want to wait the 2 days. I feel like he has dismissed us but that may be my emotions talking...
  23. We are on borrowed time...the vet put her on Prednisone last Wednesday and I know that increases urination...yesterday we were out for 5 hours and came home to a flooded living room. Today she is pickier than ever...made Mac and Cheese and added mushed up hard boiled egg and sardines...NOTHING. A little rotisserie chicken worked for a few mouthfuls. I don't know stinky catfood from non-stinky and apparently bought the wrong kind because it didn't interest her. Next shopping trip I will pop a few cans and snort it in the store...
  24. My grey Bess was diagnosed with an intestinal mass last Wed. at the ER doc. She had been given subcutanous fluids when I took her to our regular vet on Tuesday after her blood tests revealed she is anemic. We are biding our time now but I wonder when I should bring her back to the doc for another dose of the fluids? Is a week reasonable?
