  1. I've heard of greys on here having scars that swell up and become irritated in the sun. Do you ever put anything topical on it? Vitamin E oil works pretty well. However, I still would have it checked out by the vet. It may be a growth or something else that warrants removal.
  2. He's getting all the toys out from under the couch! Tempo just looked at him and yawned. ETA: Rocko just got up on the couch to lay with Tempo! That just made my day.
  3. Oh wow, I am really impressed with Tempo's ability to maneuver on three legs already! He spent a good amount of time circling around, fluffing his bed, and checking for snakes. His movement looked very natural. How cool is that.
  4. No advice, but Truman did that more so when he was a puppy. He also went through very exaggerated developmental stages, so I think it was a security thing. When he got a little bit older, he started going downstairs and sleeping on the couch by himself. But more times than not, he's in our bed when we wake up. My next bed will be a California King!
  5. Thanks for sharing! My Henry was fear aggressive, then turned into a therapy dog. Watching his progress was such a rewarding experience. I don't think our bond would be as strong if we didn't have to jump through so many hurdles together. I have a soft spot in my heart for the shy ones.
  6. Well, Matt, now you have no choice but to spill and tell us who this dog is!
  7. I am on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what is going on with your boy (which I'm sure is nothing compared to how you feel). Glad to hear he's stable, albeit a little grouchy.
  8. I taught Henry the command 'tell me!' just by getting him real excited and expanding upon his whining (as Giselle mentioned). I'd started giving him more and more attention as the whines turned into barks and got louder. But it's not something he will do all the time- he has to be in the right mood to do it.
  9. Hi!! We're from the Greensburg area.
  10. They'll get it in time... We go through the same thing when we try a new dog park. Once, Henry was running top speed and flipped himself over a park bench. We tend to move large obstacles (if possible). But after a few times, they seem to have a better idea of where they're going.
  11. I can't comment on CET but I've used Dental Fresh (by Synergy) for years with good results- it only has chlorine dioxide and sodium bicarbonate.
  12. You hit the nail on the head. We run into this problem a lot at dog parks. Our dogs don't want to wrestle, rough-and-tumble play like most of the other dogs there. They want to chase! Especially if there is another dog fetching a ball or frisbee, they will chase that dog. Then, often times the other dog gives up on his toy because he's intimidated and doesn't enjoy being chased. Some of the sporting dogs have a lot of energy and don't mind playing that way. But I find that most of the working dogs and small breeds don't like it. With good reason too... if a dog double or triple my size was chasing me at 45MPH, I'd be really scared! I have a dog "bucket list" of all the different dogs I want to own before I die. I really debated getting another breed when we were looking for a second. We had our eye on a wolfhound x great dane named Findley. We were prepared to adopt him, but when we introduced him to Henry, it was just eh. They didn't seem to care about each other one way or the other. For us, it came down to the fact that Henry gets a sparkle in his eye and acts more outgoing with greyhounds than any other type of dog. We were less concerned about getting another dog for ourselves, as we were about having a companion and friend for Henry. So we made the decision to get our second greyhound, Truman, for his benefit.
  13. I am so sorry to hear this... Thanks for taking a chance on Harold. He was a special boy.
  14. Truman is a cleptomaniac. He steals anything and everything, then takes it out the dog door. An incomplete list includes: shoes, undergarments, electronics, bed pillows, tupperware, utensils, oven mits, remote controls, magazines, the mail, bags of flour, toilet paper, cardboard boxes, DBF's retainer, K-Cups, banana peels, toothpaste, cat toys... the list goes on and on.
  15. There have been times (in particularly inclement weather) that Truman peed ON the dog door. Almost like he was trying to line it up without actually having to go outside.
  16. Oh God... I am so sorry you're going through this. My boy is 5 1/2 too... You're probably never prepared for news like this, but 5 1/2 is way too young... Hugs and best wishes for a successful surgery and treatment.
  17. It doesn't cover ticks, so if you use Trifexis, you'd also have to get a tick collar. Way too many TBDs popping up this year to not use a preventative.
  18. I feel more comfortable using a topical flea and tick preventative (Frontline Plus or Advantage) and Heartgard for heartworms. I've heard read too many horror stories about flea collars causing seizures and death.
  19. I also always opt for the pre-anesthesia bloodwork. It gives me a little bit more piece of mind.
  20. It definitely depends on the individual dog, but in general, it's a good idea to match dogs based on their temperament and energy level. Henry gets along with 99% of other dogs, but I know he'd be stressed out if he had to live with a high-energy dog, like a young lab or boxer. I will say that neither of my dogs interacts the same way with other breeds as they do with greyhounds. If there's 20 other dogs at the dog park, they'll always single out the one other greyhound.
  21. This probably is somewhat good news! My cat's one lymph node was golfball-sized and very hard to the touch.
