  1. Thank you so much. I am buying one tomorrow. I can't take her pulling anymore.
  2. Yes, I am calling her Mousie. She knows her name and it is fine with me. My vet said she needs braces badly..LOL She looks like a mouse from the side and she drinks by putting her whole muzzle under the water with her nose. She blows bubbles from her nose while she tries to scoop the water..it is funny to watch. The spook harness that Anne Greene with Majesticcollars.com is wonderful. I have ordered another one from her. I will try to get my girlfriend to post pictures of her because I do not know how. They are all laying down right now after about 45 minutes of trying to walk in 22 degree weather. I know I am going to have arms like Arnold Schwartznouses (Spelling??) lol
  3. Thanks everyone. Let me tell you about the Galgo. She is extremely curious and very friendly. She gets into strangers faces immediately. There is absolutely no fear in her. I believe she was named Mousie at Scooby and was one of their favorites. She is nothing but a bundle of energy and she does not shut it down to take naps. The paperwork says she just turned 4, but she acts like a one year old to me. I get a total upper body work out when I walk her and with COPD and being 68 that is saying something…lol Then I add the Greyhounds..both have corns, so one does not really want to walk, but the other does and has a high prey drive so you can imagine what we look like when we see a bird, squirrel or leaf. It wears me out. Plus today is going to be the coldest day that Georgia has had in a while. She is sweet and loving and with the spray water bottle within her sight, she will mind me. Everything about her is "shelter dog" traits. She is a keeper and is pretty well fitting in. Sorry this is so long, but no one has any idea what a new adopter is going through other than you people. Thanks
  4. Thanks. I have a spook harness from Anne Greene and I also put a collar on her. That is 2 leashes for security, but that does nothing for the lunging and pulling.
  5. Has anyone ever used a Gentle Leader on their hounds? I have a brand new Galgo and she has NEVER been on a leash. I need some help. Thanks
  6. I do not live in Canada, but I have used Trupanion for the last 4 years on my two Greyhounds. I have been very happy with them. They have paid for 3 back surgeries and many other things. But, with the new Galgo, I decided to try Healthy Paws (the premium is about half price). I have not had a problem with the Galgo, so have not used the insurance co..we will see.
  7. If you have insurance I would for sure do and MRI. Something is hurting him and the meds are not helping.
  8. Thanks. I believe she does all of the negative things your mentioned because I have heard other people comment on her training. My dogs need no training as they are about as perfect as they can get…LOL..
  9. I agree with Burpdog. I still wish I had tried raw on Huck. He came from the tracks with IBD and my vet was never able to control it. He had to go on B12 shots and I tried every dog food on the market. Now I feed both of my hounds about 1/3 kibble and the rest raw. Works for us. Oh, and bone cancer got Huck, but I believe that IBD would have killed him.
  10. I had an e-mail today from a dog trainer not too far from me. This is what she does with the dogs that are in her care for training. 1) Positive Reinforcement 2) Negative Reinforcement 3) Positive Punishment 4) Negative Punishment Can someone please give me your opinion on this? I do not intend to take my dogs there because I am happy using Positive Reinforcement. Thanks.
  11. The Humane Society in my area has piles of crates. I think they would loan or give one to anyone that need it. Maybe yours can help you out and that way you do not have to purchase a crate.
  12. Guess he doesn't want it. Take it back and get a refund.
  13. Sorry for your loss. My vet will not do a heart stick ever..She always does a leg vein and uses two meds. The first one puts the dog asleep and the second one stops his heart. Painless.
  14. I had this happen with my hound a couple of weeks ago. My vet put him on antibiotics for 10 days and so far so good. We are about 2 weeks out.
  15. I feed raw too, but mix with Wellness Limited Salmon and Peas. Also mix in French green beans, carrots and any vegetables I have around. Sometimes mix in bananas.
  16. My vet is just a few miles from me, so I took Huck to her every week. There was no charge. If I had to do it over, I would not have had him biopsied either. He came from the track with IBD. I wish also that I had tried raw feeding for him. That is about the only thing I never tried. He was only 6 when he died.
  17. Huck had IBD and had to have B12 shots weekly. My vet sent samples to Texas A&M and IBD was confirmed. We could not ever get it under control, but bone cancer is what got him in the end.
  18. I had to take my male off Beef in his kibble..seems he developed allergies. Vet said staying on the same protein for a long time can make them come up with allergies…so, he is raw fed (turkey necks, venison, duck and quail) with a little bit of salmon and pea (Wellness) kibble. No more red feet and no more chewing his legs and feet. And, he has lost about 8 lbs!!!! He is back to his racing rate and I know that takes the pressure off of his corns.
  19. Please don't think I am being a "know it all", but everything I hear about surgery is not good. The corn seems to come back after the dog has recovered.
  20. Could someone please give me a % guideline to give to a butcher if I am going to ask him to grind raw mixes for me? Example: % venison, % bone and % whatever else. Thanks
  21. I have asked my vet (or actually the techs) not to shave my dogs legs anymore in prep for a needle. They don't have to and by not shaving the dogs do not lick the area. Works for us!
  22. I use mixed vegetable or french green beans in both of my hounds food. It gives them the feeling of being full without the calories. DaVid get a turkey neck for a meal every few days 'cause it helps with his teeth. Lady gets the electric toothbrush.
  23. Mine had IBD and could never control it. If he starts looking weight or has blood in the stool, I would definitely talk to the vet about IBD, B12 shots and changing food.
