  1. Carol, I have not heard if the Thera Paw boot I sent you helped your hound. Did it?
  2. I am feeding mine Honest Kitchen Keen. Working good and sent right to my door with Chewy.com
  3. Wonder what your vet would say about changing to Gabapentin? DaVid takes 200 mg three times a day (along with 150mg of tranadol)..just a thought.
  4. I had to keep DaVid's foot dry one time for 6 weeks..my vet cut the bottom out of an IV soft plastic container and I taped the top and bottom..wonder if you could use one without the bottom cut out and just vet tape the top to her leg?
  5. I believe Chewy.com told me there were 52 cups in a 26# bag of dog food. It is a little hard for me to figure, because I mix a couple of foods. But, that should get you close.
  6. I am using turkey necks with sort of good results.
  7. DaVid had one lower canine removed because of an infection. He was about 6 or 7 years old. My regular vet did it and gave the tooth to me. I had absolutely no idea how long that tooth was!! He has done fine, but the other lower one broke at the gum line and vet said to just watch it and we have been watching for about 3 years. She is reluctant to remove it. He is 10 1/2 now.
  8. I mailed the Thera-Paw boot today so you should get it soon. I hope it works for her. Nan The boot opens up pretty wide, so she may not object to it.
  9. How much does she weigh? I can send you a Thera Paw if she is around 60#. Lady had to wear them for corns.
  10. Like I said in another forum..the only food I can feed is ZD from the vet. It is WAY to expensive, but I have just decided I don't have a choice. My vet believes he has IBD. Huck also had IBD so I know and we could never control it. That is not what he died from (bone cancer at 6 years old), but while he was living IBD was a terrible thing to have. Good luck.
  11. I just ordered Springtime Joint Health Formula for Dogs and they are sending me a jar of Joint Health Chewables for Free. DaVid now has IBD and I have to feed him ZD from the vet because anything else give him massive loose stools and I believe I have tried everything...along with being 10 1/2 years old and having a bad back (2 surgeries on back). I sure hope this helps!
  12. You are so right about the money. I have already told my vet there will be no more Greyhounds when DaVid dies. I absolutely cannot afford it even with insurance on all three dogs.
  13. Muzzles I had to use them around here for about two weeks on the Galgos.
  14. I would love to hear how you do this…what kind of food and how much to package for each meal. Did you start by reading books on it?? DaVid has IBD so I have only been able to feed him vet food at $92.00 a bag. The Galgos will eat anything. Thanks
  15. I buy Rice baby cereal. It is 50 calories per 1/4 cup and they seem to like it. I just put it on top of their food. Seems once I prime him with the cereal, he just eats the rest of the food in his bowl. He has IBD so it is very tricky with the food. I think I will try Ensure next.
  16. My neurologist, Dr. Jason King (Savannah, Ga) said my Greyhound had a condition that was very similar to Wobbler's. He operated on her and replaced several of her disks. It was a VERY successful surgery and she had no more back problems. Check him out on the web.
  17. Trupanion has paid out many thousands on my dogs. MRI, several back surgeries and corns. My premium for Lady and DaVid was $226.00 per month. When I got DaVid from the track, he would not eat and had bad stools so I took him to my vet at the time (mistake) and she kept him for several weeks (also my mistake). He lost a bunch of weight and she said he had allergies, tho we did no testing. But, the bill was about $3000.00…I then applied for Trupanion and of course got it, but they said they would not cover his allergies…so for the past 7 years every time he had a stomach problem or ear infection, they would write it off to allergies. Then comes IBD and they say allergies…they can not prove it, but my Vet cannot disprove it either…so, the little chippy girl on the phone the other night said they would never cover the IBD..I think they send them to a special school to learn how to talk to customers like they do. Anyway, with my two Galgos my premium is about 1/2 the price Trupanion wanted to charge (even counting in the $100 deductible per year) When DaVid dies, I will be done with Trupanion forever. Actually, when all of my dogs die, I will be done and will just volunteer at rescues. Enough. Thanks everyone for posting.
  18. Thanks for the information, but he has to go in weekly to have his corns hulled. I don't believe Healthy Paws would cover that, so that would put my output as $267 per month, $500 dec. and 70% reimbursement. I am on Social Security and just don't have the money to pay that amount. But, I appreciate you taking the time to check it out.
  19. DaVid is 10 1/2 so I don't think I will have Trupanion much longer. But, in the mean time, I would not recommend them to anyone. My vet said she thought they would pay for the IBD and wrote them a letter of appeal, but it did no good. We jus finished about $750 with of tests (blood, kidney) and now they are not paying on that. I am very disappointed with Trupanion and will tell people to check out Healthy Paws and not bother with Trupanion.
  20. Just finished talking to Trupanion and they are telling me they will not cover DaVid's suspected IBD problems. Since he was 3 they have said he had pre enrollment allergies, but now they are saying they will not cover that problem or IBD. My other two hounds are insured with Healthy Paws, but I am not able to enroll him because of his issues and his age. At one time I really liked Trupanion, but not anymore.
  21. DaVid has been on 3 Tramadol and 2 Gabapentin every 8 hours for years. He has had 2 back surgeries and must have the pain relief.
