  1. I switched and like others, Enza does better on it.
  2. I'd take him in - swelling, no weight, and yelping would mean I take in my girl.
  3. Thinking all good things for you. When they took Enza back for x-rays recently, they let me go stand near her which helped calm her and kept me from freaking out. But it's nothing.
  4. My friends jokingly call Enza the racial profiling hussy because she much prefers dark skinned men to any other living creature on this planet - including me. She is terrified of ducks, umbrellas, and mockingbirds. The mockingbirds I can understand as they dive bomb her if we walk past nests - the other two just amuse me.
  5. She prefers the term "quirky". And yeah - slowly but every single time by week two, we have issues. What is driving this research is that she hasn't picked up a stick in two weeks.
  6. She's on a joint supplement but no fish oil as it causes digestive problems. Tramadol is out - she had a bad reaction so it is not an option. I am doing the low dose rimadyl but am also exploring other options to see about better mitigating pain vs. just controlling it medicinally. If that is the only option, I will of course go that path, but I see no harm in inquiring. As for the odd term, it was more how we delineated between lethargic and wilting on a walk. I was discussing how she is by no means lethargic but will wilt if we go too far so she said, "so she's exercise intolerant then", paused and then we both started laughing. There was then a 5 minute sidebar about ourselves being exercise intolerant that might have better illustrated, but it wasn't germane to the discussion. So ppptth. One would think I would know by now to record and post every conversation with the vet to avoid people questioning everything.
  7. Thanks! I will ask my vet about these options etc.
  8. Enza has become more and more "exercise intolerant" (the Vet's rather amusing description) and no longer can go for the nice long walks unless she is consistently on NSAIDs. I am cautious about having her on rimadyl long term (50 mg per day) just to go for walks. She is fine around the house and continues to destroy toys and bounce around like a bunny when I get home or she sees one of her favorite people. I've been looking into other options including acupuncture and a neighbor said a few rounds of cold laser therapy helped her pup immensely. Has anyone else done with this their pup?
  9. Yep - switched from Arlington because I need a urgent appointment. I see Dr. Planeta and I adore her. I remember thinking she looked like a baby but she gets on the floor with Enza, lets me take her temp if she is being fussy with her ears, replies to emails right away and provides many options before hitting the panic button. She loves greyhounds and had made an effort to read up on them and their quirks when at Cornell. She also wants to order a water bed for any greyhound that goes through surgery there because she once read it helps them recover better.
  10. Trust me - it was on my brain too. You know how much I spoil that dog so I could not fathom how I missed it, but also I kept thinking that she should be should be more skeleton like and she wasn't. She's on the low end of her range (61) but nothing that can't be explained away by age, etc. However, she will be getting many more treats the next few days to beef her up a bit.
  11. First - I love my vet. Second - turns out their scale was broken and Enza is back up to her normal range. She is on the low end of it but no dramatic weight loss. However, I am still glad I went in as the vet noticed a heart murmur that she had never heard before. Something showed up on the xrays but didn't seem major - everything was perfectly clear although the vet noticed her vertebrae looked more calcified than last year. So. We are waiting for blood tests, I am treating her with a round of NSAIDs to see if her "exercise intolerance" is due to her neck issues. If that doesn't fix it, I can consult a cardiologist for a EKG.
  12. She's 7. Besides being quick to tire out (which is not new for her), nothing else has really changed except for the weight loss. Blood panel for sure - and perhaps a few more treats until then.
  13. I took Enza out for a walk with some friends today and when the sun hit her just right, we all realized she was looking really skinny. She was also moving rather sluggish despite being perky and hyper this morning. On the way home, I swung past the vet and she weighed 50 lbs. Two months ago she was at 57 and in October she was about 64. So in a few months, she has lost quite a bit of weight despite normal eating, drinking, and solid poops. I did deworm her a few weeks ago as well. She's been perky, will still grab sticks and walk with her tail curled up, but she does tire out sooner. Her coat is fine although she is starting to blow the winter coat and I noticed yesterday she has more dandruff. The office immediately scheduled her for an appointment on Tuesday. What should I be asking/looking for - besides a bag to breath into.
  14. Enza is on rimadyl on and off and we test her liver once a year. She does fine on it. Tramadol however, is not an option as it caused bizarre impacts where she would go from being comatose to super hyper. She also wouldn't stop pacing and panicking so it's a no go for us. My vet said she actually doesn't like to prescribe Tramadol because more dogs have issues on that drug than the others. It's an interesting discussion.
  15. Uh- I had no idea! Very cool. (the honey yes, but not sugar)
  16. When the vet speaks, we listen. OP - Jen and Colleen have done wonders with dogs that most people would have returned or given up on. Lord knows when my dog went through a bout of pushiness, I reached out to them and received good advice with a healthy dose of reality and sense of humor. Personally, you two are going to be fine. I have said a million times on here that I spent the first month with Enza wondering just what in the world I had done. It's normal.
  17. I saw the neurologist up at VSOM and loved them. LOVED them but it can take a while to get in. But it might be worth a call.
  18. No idea how they know, but they know. There is a rather weird crazy guy in the neighborhood that just gets and wanders but Enza is very very gentle with him. She will lick his hand and lean against before moving on. The group of young men some might consider hoodlums - Enza will run straight at them with her butt wiggling for joy. She loathes this one woman in the neighborhood near us and based on the rather horrific racists things she says, I don't blame Enza. And twice, Enza has stopped dead in her tracks, stood in front of me, and started growling deep in her chest at random people walking towards us. I did have one date come by the house and Enza walked into the bedroom - I knew then it was going to be an unbearable date and it was.
  19. His methods aside, the fact that more people will know how the galgos are treated is worth any and all exposure.
