  1. What a life you shared together. She knew how much you loved her. Godspeed Missy, pain-free sweetheart.
  2. You can also get Tramadol compounded with flavoring. I know there is at least one GT-er who does this. Glad the PB worked tho!
  3. Haka was my first dog, our first greyhound. He taught me so much about love, and he opened a part of my heart I didn't know previously existed. I am so sorry it was Haka's time. What a life you lived together.
  4. Tramadol is bitter. I break the pill in half and put it in a plain capsule.

    Doubles

Miss Pat, I am so, so sorry your young man had to leave. He really did have big paws to fill and he took that on and flourished. Surely, those girls had something to do with Doubles finding his way to you. I wish I could take away the pain. Godspeed Doubles, you are so missed.
  6. I am so very sorry. Godspeed handsome boy.
  7. Mary I am so sorry, both for your early loss and the one today of your special man. Remember, invisible threads are the strongest ties. Godspeed little won.
  8. This is *totally* random, but have Maya's ears and hearing been checked? Thinking about sensitivity to the noise levels last night.
  9. If after ruling out anything medical (thyroid, worms, etc.) and determining that you just have a dog who tends to be lean but you'd like him a bit more plump, feeding canned puppy food can help. It often helps my seniors keep up their weight and has helped with skinnies who needed a boost.
  10. This. I'm sorry you are at the point where you are asking, but talking about it can often shed light on what we see or don't see. Like many here, I have lost far too many dogs and had to make the decision with each one to let them go. With one, I know I waited too long and it still beats me up. But I want to tell you about Pal, who has been gone a year this past October. Pal's LS finally became unmanageable. He was 14.1 and lived a grand life. I sat with him on several occasions and asked him what *he* wanted to do and think it crazy or not, we decided together. He had a wonderful last day. He ate all his favorite things. He got to go for a (very short) walk in the rain and wear his favorite raincoat. He hadn't fallen and become infirmed, but I could see that this is where we were heading. He (we!) had a lovely day together. Our vet called to give a heads up about 20 minutes before she arrived. Pal and I continued to quietly snuggle on the couch where we had been for two hours after his dinner. As soon as I hung up the phone, he sat up and kissed my nose, *I believe* saying "It's ok momma, I'm ready." His passing was peaceful and I believe in my heart that he is watching over me, every day. Though you doubt yourself, i am sure, truly, that you *will* know when it's time. Because no decision ever made with love for your hound is wrong.
  11. Winters are definitely hard on old dogs (who are the best dogs ). I use bath towels out the back door to the landing and on the walkway until the dogs can get to the yard. As ice builds up you can just keep layering if you have to. Rug runners do the same thing. Towels work in icy spots in the yard, too.
  12. If hypothyroidism is suspected, starting Maya on soloxine won't hurt her and it might help.
  13. Every week we have Sardine Saturday; it's a big can of big sardines in tomato sauce that is shared between four pups (or five, when we were that #) and it works well for us. Occasionally during the week they will also share a small tin of sardines in oil but I don't think that it's very much fish/oil. I know that some use coconut oil (search for threads here, there are quite a few) for dry skin, etc., starting with a half-teaspoon or so per day.
  14. Not something you want to mess with, sotospeak Good grief
  15. I was just wondering about that in another thread. Who thought up those experiments in the first place and, who funded that study?? Zariel has quite the technique
  16. I didn't want to freak you out. It could have been as simple as a cold or the flu that was worrying Ruby. Or she senses that you are worried(?) about your procedure? If that's not the case, what Chris and Kristin said about packing; what seems minimal to us could be traumatic to them. Or, is she suddenly wearing jammies or a coat that is causing static? I've seen that happen plenty of times. I'm just full of ideas Srsly, I hope that your and DH's procs go well and that Ruby is just realizing that she loves you more than she thought she did.
  17. Is any human in the house ill? Dogs can be very intuitive about us.
  18. Thank you, Ducky . I miss my two girls terribly. Today I am also missing my good boy Segugio, who left on New Year's Eve day 2011.
