  1. Godspeed, Haka. I am so very sorry for your loss.
  2. I am very sorry for your loss. Godspeed, Dita.
  3. Dr. Couto mentioned GH murmurs in the Idexx online seminars; there are GH murmurs and then there are "other breed" murmurs. Is your Vet GH savvy? If not, for your peace of mind, you might want to consider getting a second opinion from a specialist. If nothing else, you will have established a baseline.
  4. He knows best.........for now. Fasting is really the best thing until the meds can kick in, assuming that it's just gastroenteritis. We had a virus going around our area a month or so ago (confirmed during a Vet visit with Dalton) with the same symptoms and both of mine had it, thankfully not at the same time. Fasted Dalton for 24 hours (only bone broth) and then resumed small meals of boiled white potatoes and boiled chicken for 24 hours, then larger meals of the potato/chicken for 24 hours, then re-introduced regular food over the next 48 hours. No problem. Second one (Fuzz)..............not so much. Had to do steps 1,2 and 3 two times. The potato/chicken was still too much for her even after 24 hours of fasting/bone broth. Mine don't do well with rice even if I cook it to death with twice the water of a normal recipe. I'm sure they would do "ok" with pasta, but as an enticement, I use the broth from the boiled chicken to mash the potatoes. They seem to like that best. Getting them to drink when they have been vomiting seems to be a common challenge, so that's why I like bone broth. You could even add some unflavored pedialyte just to make sure that Mover is getting all he needs.
  5. Prayers for Marlow. Hugs for you. It could be so many things, just hoping that it's an easy "fix".
  6. Kyle, was there a resolution to Stewie's mouth issue?
  7. Please investigate food grade diatomaceous earth before waging an all out chemical war on ticks! If you get 100% pure DE (most commercially available food grade DE has fillers to keep the cost down), you can actually EAT the stuff! You can use it inside, outside, on your pets, on your carpets (although I wouldn't recommend it only because it might kill your vacuum cleaner), tile, wood, whatever. It took some time, but I actually found 100% pure food grade DE at a feed store very near my home! Google it and be amazed! The only cautionary statement that I remember is to try not to breath the dust if you can help it. Living in FL, you can imagine the insect parade that can happen if any area of a home, inside or out, remains untouched for any length of time; fleas and ticks and roaches - oh my! It's disgusting! There's a video on you tube that shows how to make your own applicator to as not to waste it - the powder is extremely fine!
  8. Experienced something similar over the ribcage, so not nearly as grizzly as Sunshine's injury. We also lost the bottom of the "V" and had to do a surgical procedure to remove the dead tissue and close the wound again. No drain to worry about and healing was uneventful. Glad Sunshine is healed and I'm sure she is, too!
  9. I don't disagree with anything that has been posted but would like to offer some food for thought - pun intended. 1. Had one dog turn up her nose to a previously loved food only to have it recalled shortly thereafter. Stale or tainted, there was "something" wrong with the food. 2. In case of a recall, natural disaster or another reason that would interrupt the supply chain, having a #2 and even a #3 choice will save time, money and distress for the dog and owner. 3. Combining two or three different foods in various proportions can provide interest and hold off boredom. 4. And my favorite; would you be satisfied with eating the same food every day for the rest of your life?
  10. Awww, poor little thing! Hope she feels better riteawayqwik (hi Piper! )! Can she tolerate people food? Could the meds be upsetting her tummy? Do you think she would drink some broth from boiled chicken? Sending healing white light to both Tessa and Ducky.
  11. Oh, Ducky.............I am so sorry that Tessa is not feeling well. My gut reaction is to err on the side of caution because of the pale gums. Sending hugs and prayers that Tessa feels better soon.
  12. Agnes' sweet nature was a reflection of the love she received from so many people. She gave back in the only way she could.
  13. I am so sorry that you had to make that decision, but I totally understand your reasons. Godspeed Romie.

    R.i.p. Oberon

I am so sorry. I remember your delight in Obie's quirky personality and his delightfully perpetually happy demeanor. It's quite a tribute to him that would have you opening your hearts and home to another hound. Godspeed, Obie.

    Unka Lee

I am so sorry, Lori. Unka Lee was as much a fixture on GT as any hound. He will be missed.
  16. Can you get a copy of the blood test results and a urinalysis, if possible? There are many forms and manifestations of kidney disease that go way beyond Creatinine. Basing a decision to make such a dramatic change based on one value, one time may not be in Dante's best interest. I understand the concern to protect the health of a 13 year old, but in my experience, most Vets suggest prescription food because they don't know what else to do. Perhaps this link will provide more information. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-dog-foods/low-protein-dog-foods/
  17. Joining the Yahoo group Circle of Grey might give you insight into supplements that others have used for melanomas and/or other cancers.
