  5. Irene, my heart goes out to you as you remember your beloved Idol. I so know how you feel, as we only had our precious Robin for four years, and he also left us last year at age 7. It is so terribly unfair, isn't it? Hugs as you remember Idol, who will always be in your heart.

  12. 10:30 seems like a late enough final pee break to me. Especially if she's not drinking tons of water in the hours leading up to the final pee break at 10:30.
  13. What time was her last pee break before bad last night? It's really hard but completely ignoring them works. As I learned, if we just kept getting up to feed Dakota at the time "he" wanted to get up -- 5:30 a.m.-- we were rewarding him for his behavior by giving him just what he wanted--breakfast at 5:30! Which is not what we wanted! You're probably going to have to ignore her/play dead for a few more days.
  14. I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to your beloved Fletcher. He was so handsome. Godspeed, sweet boy. :f_red
  15. Our hounds are not allowed in our beds or on our furniture (yes, I know, we're mean doggy parents ) Nor does Dakota use a crate. He and Toby sleep on their doggy beds in our room, and we have a small piece of plywood which I store behind the door until it's bedtime. Then when all 4 of us are in there. I put the small piece of plywood in front of our open bedroom door, and it's time to sleep! The piece of plywood is so small, it's definitely no more than 2 feet tall. Either of them would easily be able to clear it if they were jumpers--which they're not. Edited to add: Our hounds now sleep all night long, until 6:15 a.m. Not a minute later. 7 days a week. This is the time I need to get up in the mornings on weekdays. On weekends, I just let them out, feed them, and we all go right back to sleep.
  16. First, I love the title of your thread! We had similar problems with Dakota when we first got him. He was pacing all around the house several times a night and waking me up at 5:30 ready to play. We solved the problem thanks to GT'ers advice. We now sleep soundly every night, thank God! read about it here: http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/295037-partying-at-530-am-how-to-make-it-stop/?hl=dakota
  17. I can't....2 is the max we can afford and handle. And Toby would run away from home if I brought another young whippersnapper hound into our family!
  18. But he didn't do that to the other hounds that were there. Just the ones he knew. Maybe I am reading too much into it, who knows?
  19. We had a meet and greet last weekend and I brought Dakota along with me because he is a champion meet and greeter (meaning he attracts attention, actively 'greets' people that come by to say hi instead of just being sacked out on the floor, and is perfect with small children, older people, etc). A couple of the other group members that were not actively working the meet and greet also came by with their hounds, so at any given time we'd have a 'hound party' there of 5 or 6 dogs. Anyway, the 2 hounds that we have available for adoption, when Dakota saw them, after the requisite sniffing of body parts, he went over to each of them and rested his chin on the backs of those 2 hounds' heads for a while. I am thinking he remembers these two hounds because they were available for adoption when we adopted Dakota. So he used to go to meet and greets with them when all 3 of them were looking for homes. Question: Do you think he remembered them, so his resting his chin on them was his way of showing affection to them and saying hi? Do you think he was being submissive to them? He didn't do the chin rest thing on the other hounds that came by to say hi at the meet and greet; ...just the two that we had available for adoption that he 'knew'. What do you think?
  20. Hugs to you as you remember your lovely Sabrina today. I know how you feel.
  21. Welcome from Gainesville, FL!! Our first hound also raced at Derby Lane, and he's a smiler too! Can't wait to "meet" your new baby.
