  1. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your husband and Carrie. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. On a personal note, I am always interested in how the alternative approaches work. Keep the faith!
  2. Thanks for thoughts and suggestions. Urine is clean and the glucose test was negative. He is "just" drinking about a 1/2 gal of water per day. It is hard to judge with 3 other greys and 4 cats, but I have been monitoring him while at home. He is also peeing everywhere A LOT with no pattern despite being let out frequently. With his age and health issues otherwise, he is sleeping a lot more than he used to, as well. I reviewed the Dogaware site and have implemented some of the suggestions. I have him belly banded now all the time, except when closely supervised and, obviously, when we go out for walks. He has also developed an intolerance to cold and with this windy winter, he refuses to stay outside for very long, which doesn't help empty the bladder. Hopefully, the blood work won't be as bad as I fear, but his condition has me quite worried. I realize that we have been blessed to have him for a year but we are not ready to even think about any alternatives! I guess with all the sadness on this board lately, I have become somewhat pessimistic. He isn't dehydrated and he looks well. The vet wasn't too concerned when he was there 10 days ago, but things have changed since then - or I am just more aware. However, I didn't have this peeing problem to this extent before. He is also on Prozac daily for his severe SA. Could that be causing problems? He has been on it for 10 months.
  3. I tried contacting whippet people but haven't be able to get any help, so I am turning to this wonderful forum. Our whippet has a lot of medical issues that began before we got him. He turned 12 in January. He has had dermal hermaniosarcoma (2 years ago) and pancreatitis (last Sept.) Those are the only illnesses that I think should be mentioned. He is raw fed and loves it, so I don't want to take away his pleasures. Diabetes has been ruled out, but he is drinking and peeing a ton. It presents like my bridge kitty, so I am pretty sure this is what I am dealing with. I have a call into the vet and am waiting for the one that I trust to come back from vacation. (there are a lot of things going on there - practice sold, etc. and I haven't moved the pets yet.) In the meantime, I have cut back on the amount of bone in his diet, as well as the amount of egg yolk. Are there any supplements that I could add to help destress the kidneys? His appointment will be at the end of the week. He is happy, just drinking, peeing and sleeping a lot. Prayers and suggestions would be most helpful. After all he has been through, this is just devastating to us. Thanks.
  4. Welcome from Maryland! He certainly looks happy and comfortable in your home! Gotta love those tuxedo boys - all dressed up and ready to go!
  5. That face in the first picture! I am so very sorry. She sounds like she was well loved and knew she deserved every second of it.
  6. I am so very sorry. I followed the threads of both of your pups travails. It is so obvious how much they were loved and they knew it. May you find peace. Hugs to your family and to Dave.

  11. I am so very sorry. What beautiful eyes! You could look into them forever.
  12. Toss him in the dryer and add (quite) a few years and you are looking at my whippet! Needless to say, what a handsome guy and I hope he finds his forever home soon!
  13. I am so sorry for your loss. May you find peace.
  14. I followed your other thread and prayed along with you. It was uplifting to see how you and Ranger handled every situation that came your way. I am in awe. I am also so very sorry; life isn't fair. May you find peace.
  15. I start walking dogs at 5:30 am. I "interval jog" (jog for a bit, stop to sniff and pee, jog for a bit) with two of them ranging from 1 to 1.75 miles in the morning. Longer distances when the weather isn't so nasty. Then, I walk the other two for a much shorter distance. My female broke a hock while racing and limps (I was told no running with her or zoomies) and my whippet is 12 and not in very good health. However, everyone gets out to sniff and investigate and relieve themselves before being tucked into the house for the day. They get 2 more turnouts into the backyard before I leave for work. All 4 are walked together when I get home and I try to go a different route, but they have their preferences as to where they want to go. My son will turn them out after school and my husband turns them out again when he gets home before I do. They are in the backyard again several times in the evening before bed. My youngest grey, 2.5, really needs to get out a lot. I think his bladder is the same size as his brain! Plus, a couple of good walks, as everyone knows, makes for good pups! They all look forward to their outings. I do let them dictate the walks (within reason) because they are for the dogs. I spent all day running up and down stairs and don't feel the need to get around the block!

  18. If only all seniors and bounces could end up at your home. Heaven on earth! He was so well loved and looked so content. My thoughts are with you at this time. May you find peace.

  20. So handsome adn I am so sorry. Run Free Argos!
  21. What a gorgeous pup! My thoughts are with you.
  22. Healing thoughts coming your way. You have had enough in your home. I don't have personal experience with LP, but my sister's lab did. She eventually had the tie-back sugery (she moved to a high altitude area and it made it too difficult for Kiva). The surgery was a success. She had to be careful with feeding and whatnot, but Kiva lived for several years after that and passed due to old age and other, non-related, factors. Please keep us posted.
  23. My whippet had a nice skin flap on the top of his head (note to whippet self - never jump underneath a snaggle-toothed grey) and needed 6-8 staples (don't remember which). The vet wanted to sedate him and I was not too keen on it. Needless to say, he got some good local and a valium. Came through like a champ! I also stayed with him during the procedure. Everything turned out fine and I keep telling him that chicks dig scars! At 12, he couldn't care less, though.
  24. Welcome from Maryland! Nibs is quite handsome! How long have you had him?
  25. All 3 greys have theirs. Zoe recently broke one off almost all the way back to the skin. No clue how, but the bleeding was something else. I wish they didn't have them, but to remove them when full grown is apparently quite painful. My whippet has his removed before I ever laid eyes on him. Costs me the same to have their nails trimmed regardless of the number tho!
