  1. marshmallows is a great idea! I've used cream cheese with american cheese rolled around it with great success also. for the bean
  2. I can't comment on the x-rays. The ones of his legs looked perfectly normal to me, and I'll be damned if I know what lungs are supposed to look like. But I want to extend my sympathies for the pain and confusion and stress you're probably feeling right now. We lost our sweet Argos at the age of 7 to osteo, only a few weeks after his diagnosis. Amputation was not an option for us. If it is for you, you'll find so many people here who can help you through those first days / weeks. And if you decide against amputation, you'll find - again - so many people here who can help you understand medication protocols and pain management. Scritches to Tristan (he is so so beautiful) and hugs to you.
  3. Oh, dear god, how I wish you had a video of one of your singing sessions
  4. Robin, I would definitely NOT offer treats or too much verbal soothing when he's showing fear - I think you're probably unwittingly reinforcing the fear. I would just stay calm and still until he calms down, and then when he's showing you the desirable behavior of, you know, sanity, offer a treat and an ear scritch and continue the walk. We had a similar situation with Argos after he was attacked. I don't think it was to the degree yours is, but it was frustrating and sad for us. Good luck
  5. that is a great photo! My Bootsy is the same way. He would rather die than be away from us longer than necessary. Even in the backyard, he is glued to us. My Argos was more of a freedom lover and runner, but he ran for fun, not to chase, and he checked in with me frequently. All dogs are different, even greyhounds. Glad you found one that works with your lifestyle. He's gorgeous by the way. I will add that recall training never hurts, even if you think you don't need it. You never know when you will.
  6. I would let them work it out, with supervision. I'd also focus on training Dexter to be more manageable in general.
  7. We use "no." Bootsy knows exactly what it means and does what he wants anyway. I love when he looks at me, looks at the food, and I can see in his eyes the moment that he decides "ah, F it. I'll take the punishment because this tastes good."
  8. Well I would not have done it, so I am allowed to say you are so great. Because you are. Zoey is beautiful and so fortunate.
  9. I don't think I've ever called to check in on a pet.
  10. I have never worried even for a moment. Mostly because we have never left him with anyone other than a trusted friend. If I had to kennel or board him I would probably fret a bit.
  11. Bootsy loves all food, but as far as what I was surprised by, he enjoys nuts, strawberries, and bananas. He also loves raisins, and no, I don't give them to him because yes, I know how dangerous they are. To a dog that is made of lesser things than diamonds, anyway.
  12. Bruiser is adorable. I'm sure everything will be good from here on out.
  13. Welcome to GT. Thanks to your post, I've been using my (really terrible) Irish accent this morning Your hounds are gorgeous
  14. Oh, Wendy. I'm so so sorry for your loss. Rocky was a special boy and adorable to boot
  15. I don't even know what oleander or foxtails are, so if they are in my yard I don't know it. But Bootsy is still alive, so there's that. Welcome to the world of greyhounds
  16. If it doesn't stop after a couple of days of cleaning, I'd have a vet take a look. It could be an infection. Bootsy has had ear infections that were pretty much unnoticeable except for the head shake / tilt.
  17. Yowch. I don't know anything about dermawhatsis, but I remember when my mom adopted a new dog, it turned out she had mange, and so I took Argos to the vet. The vet said it can be extremely difficult to get a positive test for mange, so she put him on a course of antiwormy stuff as a precaution. So maybe it could still be mange is what I say. Good luck and give sweet Dare a kiss from Auntie.
  18. Well if she was John Travolta, she'd be thrilled
  19. I wouldn't call that food aggression. I would call that "get the F out of my food you little s---."
  20. Can this thread please not get hijacked by a difference of opinion? It's been really helpful to those of us who are new to raw. Thanks.
  21. sounds to me like she has bigger issues than her reaction to children. i have never been around an otherwise calm and balanced dog that would go after a kid just for making noise and running around, good behavior or not. it seems like you have limited ability to help, but i wish you luck
  22. Well we all know that he's made of diamonds. Of course he tolerated it fine.
  23. I found some beef liver on sale at the grocery store. It was .5 lb, so I gave Bootsy half of it. Is that right? Then he can have the other half next week or something? It was so gross, I could barely keep myself from puking.
  24. Bootsy is so bomb proof that he lives with a 3 year old boy Argos was pretty bomb proof also Fate takes care of us, because i am not the right fit for a high maintenance dog
