  1. In wilmington, DE I pay $2.99 for the large can
  2. i've had great success with velveeta cheese for giving pills, slice a bit off the brick of cheese, push pill into center, roll into ball - the dog usually swallows it whole, the pill never has a chance to "fall" out in their mouth or onto the floor because they don't chew it
  3. One of our hounds is on tylan powder long term, as Turbotania said "the food would shoot right through him" Ever since we put him on the tylan powder (1/4 tsp with eachmeal) he has great poops we mix the tylan with about a tbsp of pumpkin to mask the taste and stir it into his TOTW Pacific Stream kibble,he inhales his meals. He's doing great now, thank goodness for tylan powder!!!
  4. Go see Dr. Herrman at VCA Kirkwood, she's the best. Been going to her 20+ years. She is open to owner communication/questions/decisions, sees multiple greyhounds in her practice and is of the "less is more mindset" with many medical/medication issues. However she's not so conservative that she can't be aggressive with treatment when needed. She knows I HATE to use Rimadyl and other like-drugs so she prescribes tramadol or similar pain meds for my gang (unless we discuss it and it's deemed medically necessary/best for the hound) - she is supportive of my choices. She always keeps me informed and her staff is wonderful. She's researched many quirky issues with my hounds to help solve them and two years ago I gave her a copy of the "Care of Racing & Retired Greyhounds" she was thrilled and made sure all the vets/staff at the practice knew it was there as a reference for everyone. I LOVE my vet. here's a link to their staff/site. VCA Kirkwood Good luck! edited because I can't spell
  5. Earl has a corn on his left rear paw, what we found helpful was to put thera paw boots on both the back paws - it seemed to make him more "even"
  6. Velveeta cheese rolled into a ball or wet dog food in a ball
  7. Claudia - I'm so sorry to hear this. Hugs to you and Ekko
  8. My vote is for infected blackhead(s) My Madison gets them on a regular basis and they look exactly the same as your pictures. Warm compresses and the vet did give us some cream (Animax) to use when they get large. The cream is more for Madison's comfort vs. therapeutic.
  9. from Wilmington DE and as others have said, thank you for serving our Country
  10. Hi from Wilmington, DE and your Myka is gorgeous!!
  11. Thank you all for the compliments on my pack. Pat - Hey Yo! How ya doin? Philly will always be my "home". I didn't grow up there but I did live in NE (Oxford Circle) for 10 years and worked in Center City for 18 years. I miss it so much and take every opportunity to visit. It will always be near and dear to my heart.
  12. Sue! Good to see ya. "Earl the pearl" is FABULOUS! He's a lover boy for sure.
  13. Hello everyone, I just realized I joined GT in 2007 and never introduced myself. My name is Bernadette. My husband and I live in Delaware. Our first greyhound crossed our threshold and ran into our hearts in December 2006, sadly he is now waiting at the bridge. We're currently owned by six wonderful greyhounds. I know the rulez...pic is in the siggy. The girls Kota, Tigger and Madison are all 6 years old. The boys' ages range from 10 to 5. Tommy is 10, Earl is 6 and Tyler is 5. Our bridge babies are Horizon, Jak and Barnaby. It'll be nice to "officially" meet y'all. Please forgive my tardiness.
  14. We only ever open the top sash of our windows. That way we never have to worry about one of them going through the window screens. The front stays closed period, in fact it might get opened once or twice a year, everyone comes into our home through the garage after the dogs are secured behind closed interior doors. We will fully open the back slider door but if they would happen to go through the back screen the yard is fully fenced and both fence gates are each triple locked (slide bolt,a flip-over latch that came with the fence and we've added a heavy chain with padlock). Yes, it may seem over the top to some people and we get teased a lot about being Fort Knox but our hounds are "gold" to us. Oh and the windows/doors only get opened if we're home-when we leave everything is buttoned-up tight.
  15. No shots here, my vet is in agreement eta - they still continue to go to the vet and get a yearly exam, bloodwork, heartworm screening
  16. Agree with cbudshome. The last two hounds we adopted woke us up between 2-3am every night for the first 6-8 weeks. Now it's only occasionally. We have no problem getting up to put them out. We always say...when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. We try to put ourselves their "shoes".
  17. Thank you for all you do to make this site so great!
  18. The surgery was 10/21, correct? How did everything go?
  19. In May of this year our one girl had happy tail, we tried and tried to get it to heal. She was miserable, we were miserable. We struggled with the decision knowing it was a major surgery. We finally did have her tail amputated and her demeanor changed over night. It was a relief for all of us. Her 2 week recovery was very smooth and she healed beautifully. If ever faced with the decision again, we wouldn't hesitate.
  20. Thanks for the update. You and Butkus have been on my mind. It sounds like there are more positives than negatives now and that's a good thing. I'm a worrier too so I get where you're coming from...I try to keep the worry to a minimum by doing it in a set time each day. Sounds weird but it does work I'll keep you, your DH and of course Butkus, in my good thoughts!
