  1. I wish that the ending of this story could have been different...... but she is now at peace & there is no more pain. Run free little girl.
  2. Well, at 15+ years old the energy level is not really that high , but when the mornings are so nice & mild Nevada likes to go out more often to smell the flowers. It's sweet to see.........
  3. I'm so sorry.............just hug him & love him and keep him pain free.
  4. Just seeing this today. Glad to hear the old gal is doing better. Hoping she comes home tomorrow! XXOO
  5. After you've ruled out medical issues, you might consider training him to use a pee pad during the day. Nevada is 15+ years old with cushings disease. She uses her pee pad during the day. Can't ask for more from my elderly gal.
  6. I'm so very sorry. Treasure your time together............
  7. Nevada must get her food heated since you cook for her Carol? Yes, the Diva gets her food warmed in the microwave. I think it's all about the nose too. Got to make it tempting for them. Heck, older human people start to eat less too-their senses start to decrease & thus they no longer want to eat.
  8. Nevada is 15 years and 5 months old. She can get picky. I've been home cooking for her since the food recall. She eats roasted chicken breasts, turkey & ground beef-each mixed with rice & veggies. I rotate so that she doesn't get bored.
  9. Just from personal experience-I would say Cushings Disease. Watch for excessive drinking, eating & peeing.
  10. Sending good thoughts for the MRI tomorrow...........
  11. Nevada is 15+ years old now. She has some back problems, so this year I bought her a raised feeder. She really seems to like it and it seems to help her back-no need to bend over to eat or drink. I have also placed rugs & runners on surfaces that she might slip on. Her back end isn't as steady as it use to be. The rugs help her maintain her balance. She also has access to a pee-pee pad during the day in case that she can't hold it. I tried a ramp for her so she didn't need to jump up on my bed. It was like trying to get a mule up the ramp & then she decided to jump over the ramp to get into bed. The ramp got returned! At times, I need to assist her on the sofa. Her legs gets caught in a wierd position & I move it for her. The Diva looks at me & expects me to assist her........my little Diva
  12. Such a beautiful girlie.............
  13. I know how you feel too. A few weeks ago, I really thought that Nevada would not be here for Christmas. Every day, week, month is a blessing. Enjoy the time together!
  14. I'm so sorry. Hugs for you & prayers for your Christmas angel.
  15. My 15+ year old Nevada takes it 2x daily for her back pain. It seems to be working quite well. Unfortunately, with a dog this old we're not talking about really long term. I just watch for any side effects.
  16. Could the straining be his reaction to cramping?
  17. Nevada spent the morning at the Vet today. Dr Katie gave her a good exam & did her electrolyte panel. Everything looked good on the panel. Her exam was basically benign. She has lost a lot of weight. Dr Katie feels that it's her age & the Cushings disease causing her to fail. It's starting to take a toll on her body & she's showing her age. We've decided to just try & keep her as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. It may be two weeks, two months or a year. It's hard to know. If her Cushings symptoms return we'll try low dose Mitotane, but give it with prednisone. If it doesn't work, it may be time to let her go.......I did ask her if it was time to let go now & she said no, not yet. I was an emotional basket case today. Even Dr Katie started to cry........... I'm going to enjoy the time that we have left & spoil the heck out of my girlie.
  18. Nevada had another good day today. And she managed to stay IN the bed last night. I took my body pillow & placed it along the edge of the bed. This worked well to keep her away from the edge & provided her with another thing to snuggle into. What baffles me is that she has not required any Mitotane for her Cushings. She'll be spending the morning at the Vet tomorrow, getting an electrolyte panel drawn & getting a look-over. Hopefully the Vet can shed some light..........keeping my fingers crossed.
  19. So far, so good again today. Her appetite seems good, although not as good as yesterday. She does seem a little quiet & tired today. I think that this whole episode has been hard on her. She did fall out of my bed last night ........something woke me up & all I could see was her very close to the edge of the bed. The next thing I see is her sliding off the bed & I hear thud! I think that she was dreaming & her movements caused her to slide off. She didn't make a peep. She looked pretty dazed when I got to her. I checked her over & got her back into bed. She went right to sleep again. Do they make doggie side rails for beds??
  20. It's another good day for Nevada!! She's eating well & sleeping well (so is her mother). Drinking seems fairly normal so far............Gosh this dog bounces back so well. Boy, am I lucky! She must be a strong girlie, even at 15 years old. No cat hunting tonight....it's raining here in Arizona.
  21. Sending good thoughts your way............
