  1. Would love to hear some news about Kelly ... and sending prayers.
  2. I'm so sad for you. I hope these next days are pain free.
  3. for my visiting senior hounds who struggle to keep weight on (and to stay warm), step 1 was to find a spot with NO DRAFTS. I found even a very light blanket was enough coverage to trap the heat on her little body and keep her warm & snuggly ... small, lightweight blankies are less likely to cause a tangle (you can take a piece of fleece and cut it to size ... no need to hem). If you have a ceiling fan (to keep you cooler as you raise the temperature by a degree or two), consider taking the bottom edge of your bed cover and extend it (like an awning). It will keep the area at the foot of the bed lower in drafts, and perfect location for a snuggly bed without blocking either of you from getting out of bed. good luck!
  4. Congratulations! Looking forward to continued updates on Lady!
  5. consider baby-gating (or xpen) a part of the room off to keep youngsters from 'her space' without forcing her into a back bedroom away from the social part of the visit. And I wasnt clear how long the 'hosting' was scheduled for ... if it is more than a day, I might consider having a doggy playdate where Cameron can relax from having lots of strangers in her space. I do that with several friends (gives us safe coverage when we have to go out of town), and it is a godsend!
  6. I'm so sorry for your loss, Ducky. Isn't is amazing the impact these gentle souls make on our lives in such a little time. This little boy knew that he hit the jackpot for his final months, and I love how he showed you his appreciation and love every day.
  7. What a wonderful gift ... we're celebrating with you and Tanzi this year, Mary Pat!
  8. Just seeing this, so perhaps you've made your decisions. The group I've worked with recently places all of their dogs in foster homes, and the foster family is eager for the chance to watch my dog (whom they were also considering as a foster fail). So check out your options with the group ... you may find that you find the perfect pup in early January, but it still needs to be vetted (so there would already be a delay in gotcha day). I had a friend who had an adoption pending but because of similar reasons, waited 5 weeks to pick up her heart dog. She went to the kennel every weekend to visit and begin bonding with her pup. Good luck ... and we're waiting to hear about your new family member!
  9. I can't believe I'm posting to find out if Mali pooped ... but how is Mali doing?
  10. what a terrifying time -- I'm so glad Pasadena is doing better!! Prayers that she continues to improve.
  11. for travelers who have hounds that like peanut butter (I have my first PB hater in the house now), they make "single serving cups" to take on a trip (its too much for 1 dog, but very portable). Even Riley (mr sweet tooth) disliked marshmallows ... haven't had a hound yet that liked them (but boy I wish i did). good luck to anyone who has hounds that regularly have to take multiple pills .. my heart goes out to you.
  12. Hello! My 2 prefer slightly different schedules, and I accommodate it as long as it doesn't mean more work for me. My younger girl likes to potty & eat in the morning (she liked 5am when I first got her in May ... she's now up at a much more reasonable 6:15). My slightly older girl likes to eat first & then potty (she'd sleep 'til 11a if I let her ... i get her up at 6:30). In the evenings, they get a potty walk either before or after dinner (I prefer after, but only if its light enough outside ... no streetlights here). the pups do a turnout around 9pm and then neither will get up for anything later (a far cry from Riley, who used to get up at 1a & 3a every.single.night). Enjoy your pup and please post pictures when you can!
  13. Just reading this ... sending prayers and hoping to hear that your girl is responding to the treatment right now.
  14. caution: bitter YUK has an oily consistency that sticks to your hands as well as other surfaces. Handwashing needs to be extra thorough (or really consider gloves!)
  15. my 4yo girlie (mookie, who sometimes gets called other names) has a preference for my Birkenstock sandals. She prefers the LEFT shoe, and does not like any of the styles currently available on Amazon (only my fancy prints that are not replaceable). With one exception, I was able to remove the destroyed sandal before she ingested the leather, cork, or rubber (?) bottom. For the one that I needed to recover, Mookie left a trail of vomited Birkenstock shreds on every single rug in the house (ew), so I was able to confirm that all of the shoe was expelled. sigh. I've learned that she needs to get the exercise as if she was a 2yo (and of course, I need to keep all shoes resting on designated counters). Since she REALLY likes to chew on things, I now have a stash of beef femur bones that I dole out weekly. Bottom line: young dogs and boredom are not good for your wallet.
  16. I'm looking forward to going to GPA Wisconsin's Gala on Saturday, but I haven't been able to find the schedule of events ... can anyone tell me what time the Blessing of the Hounds is scheduled for? I have a bit of a drive to get to Waukesha Expo Center, and I don't want to miss the hound blessing! Thanks from Mookie & Momma
  17. Such a hard decision, and you know darn well that she left that blueberry to say I love you. Big hugs.
