Guest Echobelly Posted April 13, 2005 Share Posted April 13, 2005 The invevitable finally happened yesterday. Lily had been diagnosed a year ago with bladder cancer, and was given just a few months. She really rallied round and seemed to be getting better, at least the medication was keeping the bladder infections at bay. She never lost her appetite (especially for pig's ears!). In fact her last meal was a doggy bag of leftover schrod, her favorite. Shortly after I left for work, she had a seizure, leaving her paralyzed. We had Lily at the vet in an hour, She was very calm, as long as we didn't leave her side. She stayed on her bed, on the hospital gurney, and let us know it was her time to go. She was a beautiful 14 yeas old. Always a lady. She was our first greyhound, named after Miss Lillian, Pres. Carter's mother. We got her right off the track and spent a lot of time teaching the usual greyhound stuff, like stairs, cars, people. She had been badly abused and the nightmares lasted for years. We adopted a greyt sister for her after two years, and Echo taught her so much, they were inseperable. Lily will always be my heart dog, she demanded so little, and gave so much. We had her 12 years. We'll let Echo decide if she wants company. She loved Lily, but I think she may enjoy getting all the attention now. We had planned a trip to Vermont this weekend, to our summer house, which was always her favorite place, and kept telling her we were going. I think she decided it was too much for her. We'll bury her ashes in her favorite spot above the pond, where she could keep an eye on everything. A tree will mark the spot. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This is the only one I could access on the web, but it is one of my favorites. She never liked having her photo taken, this is one of the few she actually agreed to model for. The blue is just some blue light bulbs I lit her with from both sides. I've been spending the afternoon looking through photos of Lily, and it's surprising how many more I have of her sister, who loved getting in front of the camera.
