Cbd Oil For Greys?

Okay, I was trying to do a search on this forum about CBD or Cannabidiol for dogs. Our boy Ralph is on some pretty high doses of Rimadyl, Tramadol, and his normal Levothyroxine (for hypothyroid). Have any of ya'll used this or come across any info? I know of some Greys who are using it with good results, but I wanted ya'lls opinion as well...

A couple have tried it for seizures, and for pain due to cancer, and one for acute anxiety. Mixed results overall. The quality of the cbc oil is key, and so far there is no way to judge for overall purity as they aren't regulated. All in all I believe it to be worth trying, at least for the above referenced diseases, but don't expect miracles.

 

If the rimadyl/tramadol duo isn't working as it once did, you might talk to your vet about adding in Gabapentin. This is a human drug for seizures (mainly), though it is gaining use in veterinary medicine for nerve pain. It has a very wide dosing range and is considered very safe, with few side effects aside from some lethargy in the beginning.

Both of Bowie's oncologists recommended it. The one highly recommended was HempRx Forte made by Rx Vitamins for Pets. It's expensive, but it's very strong and in a large bottle. Bowie is only getting 12 drops per day. We were using the CBD from Innovet, but when I proceed it out this was about the same price, but stronger.

I don't have any information about it with dogs, but I use it with my FIV positive cat without any bad side effects.

we give Zeke a 1/2 dropper full once a day to help increase his appetite -- it seems to be helping, he is eating a little better than before. I haven't tried it with Larry yet, who is suffering pretty badly from LS - he's on 300mg gabapentin and 100 mg tramadol 3 x day and gets 3.75 mg Meloxicam each morning.

 

what is your boy on the pain meds for? The Gaba does seem to help for Larry. He was on Rimadyl (from 10/16 to 5/17) but started developing bleeding in his stomach so we had to stop it and have been giving the Meloxicam since. It has less side effects and I really like it better.

I forgot to mention that he is on Gaba as well. I just know that the Rimadyl can be hard on a dogs body and he's been on it for a year-just worried that it may be doing more harm than good now. Gaba worked wonders until our Lou passed away last May. It was amazing to see the changes in his neuro issues-had spinal meningits/myelitis. Ralph on the other hand is getting old-12 years and relatively healthy.

Funny, I started on Innovet as well! It's nice to see that there are others out there who have tried it. I wanted to get VetCBD but they are sold out EVERYWHERE in my area here in Cali. So HempRx is stronger? I will check it out.

Ralph is on the pain meds for his arthritis now. He turns his back right foot in while he walks and has started knuckling. We have had 2 vets (one at VCA and one who comes to our home-Ralph can't be at VCA for hours like all his appts are there) tell us its aging/arthritis and he may have slight LS but it's not enough for us to worry about right now. He has sore hips due to the arthritis. He is an oversized grey with a giant heart of gold lol. We just want to make his life as quality as possible.

HempRx Forte has 1800mg per bottle, meaning there are 1800 drops per bottle, each drop is 1mg. I took Bowie for a consultation with Dr. Alice Villalobos (pretty well known oncologist) and she is the one who strongly recommended it. Innovet's strongest CBD only has .54mg per drop. So, the HempRX Forte is stronger and, ultimately cheaper than the strongest Innovet CBD oil as their bottles are 1oz and HempRx Forte is 2oz. It appears that Innovet will be coming out with a 2000mg version, but it isn't on the market yet. Depending on price, I may switch back to them. I buy the HempRx Forte (not just the HempRx) from PetsTruly.com as they seem to have the best price. Where are you in California? I'm in the LA area.

Started of with the innovet pet CBD oil for my galga Cara when we found that she had Degenerative Myelopathy.
When it looked like it helped her, we switched to Hemp Rx Forte and noticed she did much better on that. While it didn't cure her, nothing could, she outlived the 6 month diagnosis by almost 9 months.
We also used it, on advice of our vet as a topical on her spine before using a cold laser.

Other things we noticed convinced me it can be used for many things, when I started it looked like she was getting dog dementia, in a bad way, not knowing where she was, being confused. Within day she improved so much that she was almost like her normal self.
Something else that changed, her eyes improved considerably, the last few months we didn't need her eyedrops any more since she was producing enough tears again.

Now I use it for Florida who we found had mammary tumors, she has been operated and needs lung x-rays every 6 months, we hope it helps her with fighting cancer and during her healing time we uses it as an added pain control.
This is all done with the agreement of my vet.

When we were dealing with Majestic bad leg, he also got it after talking to the surgeon. The oncologists at this specialist clinic use it too and the surgeon said it would help his bones get stronger and help the healing process.

And lastly, I am giving it since a few weeks to Lehto who has IBD after poisoning his self with green tomatoes as a puppy.
A week into giving it I noticed that he is no longer whimpering after he had his meals.

A lot of people ask me about the use with fearful dogs or scared dogs, but that is the only way I have experienced no improvement.

One thing to keep in mind is that if your dog is on other medication, talk to your vet before giving it.
Sometimes you need to make sure you don't give it at the same time to avoid problems.

We live in the Upland area near Ontario Airport. I will definitely look into the HempRXForte. We are about half way done with the Innovet bottle. Anytime we go to a specialist we go to Southern California Vet Specialty in Irvine. I DO like that vets are looking into and are getting more familiar with the CBD oil.

It is amazing to see the results you listed with your greys! It gives me hope. I will definitely look into the HempRXForte now. I have heard from quite a few people (grey or not) that have used HempRXForte now and I feel that it may be a great next step for our Ralph. He is a bit uncomfortable lately but what I HAVE noticed is that he is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY less gassy and he does want to play more. He also wants to eat more and will start yelling-I am talking SCREECH barking when he wants more food. Little turd lol.
