palmettobug
Johnny has been having some noise anxiety issues, so he is taking Prozac and wearing a Thundershirt when he gets shaky. He does get relief with it, he lays down and the shaking stops. However, I find it's hard to get the fit just right (it's an XL, he's about 80#) and it feels kind of flimsy. I understand that it's made that way so the dog could get it off in an emergency, but I would like something that's a little more hard-wearing for the long term. Thanks! GreyTzu
Our Thundershirts are not flimsy in any way. They are designed to fit snugly round the dogs' torso. The idea is to mimic swaddling and helps to keep the dog feel somewhat secure. A TS also requires some familiarization work with the dog during non-stressful situations. They are not a magic blanket that suddenly makes the world a better place for the dog. They will also NOT make the dog normal during stressful situations. A TS should help take the edge off the dog.If your TS is flimsy or cape-like it is not a Thundershirt. This is the Thundershirt:http://www.thundershirt.com Quote Wendy and The Whole Wherd. palmettobug
I do have an original, bought at Petco, Thundershirt. I am using it in conjunction with the medication and training with my greyhound savvy vet (who has owned greys himself). Quote Current Crew: Gino-Gene-Eugene! LaFlaca
Along with intensive alone training, DAP diffusers and medication are Thundershirts useful in treating S.A.? Hubcitypam
The Storm Defender cape actually worked best back in the day :donno if they are still in business. I know that the inventor died quite a few years ago.Unlike a thundershirt the flimsy cape had/has a lame lining that diffused the static electricity surrounding thunderstorms - which for some dogs is their problem as opposed to noise. BatterseaBrindl
Our Thumndershirt is not flimsy either. As mentioned, they are meant to fit quite tight. Are you doing it up as tightly as you can? Our is also an XL and has been worn by a GSD and several Greyhounds, ranging from 65 -75 pounds. There is lots of Velcro and adjusting the fit is easy.
