rschultz
Lexie of course has had many scrapes in the past and I know the drill a week or so to heal using neosporin or the trymp liquid. This time there seems to be a spot (from a scrape from a bark tree I think) that hasnt change after a week. I even covered it a few days to see if that would help. It doesn't seem to be healing. Anything else I should be doing or try? Edited June 23, 2012 by rschultz Quote Lexie is gone but not forgotten.💜
Guest BlackandBrindle
If it hasn't changed in a week, I'd take her into the vet.

Guest BlackandBrindle
You can try honey or sugar, but my worry would be not seeing healing tissue in a week (or no change). It could be absolutely nothing to worry about or it could indicate something else going on. I don't think it's worth an emergency visit, but definitely by Monday if there is no change for the better I would be inclined to go to the vet. rschultz
Her other scrapes she had at the same time have healed. I figure I would wait a few more days over the weekend and if no change call the vet. I was just wondering if there is anything else I can try? Should I cover it during the daY?. At night I always uncover. Quote Lexie is gone but not forgotten.💜
KF_in_Georgia
Do you usually use Neosporin successfully--rather than something else like polysporin? Just wondering, because some of us are allergic to neomycin and find that Neosporin only makes wounds worse. I'd imagine the same allergy could occur in dogs. rschultz
I mostly use the trymp liquid stuff.I have used neosporin before but the try liquid always seems to work faster but that is interesting to know. cleptogrey
i only apply an antibiotic ointment once then i irrigate w/ saline solution. french gray seal salt does wonders for healing and it also brings out the flavor in foods when you use it for cooking. it's worth the investment, good food, fast healing. i would give it 2 days of irrigation- 3xs a day and then see you vet. whole foods and better health food stores carry the salt. i would also keep it covered after you irrigate so she doesn't lick it. even being covered it should dry up w/ the salts, remember it's a slightly salty taste when you make the solution and you can store it for days. Guest Isis
Take her to the vet. If you use neosporn often she may have developed resistance to it or whatever she got off the tree bark is resistant to it or it may be a viral or fungal so an antibiotic is useless. If you want to try something else, look into "living clay". Titan's Mom
Guest BrianRke
http://www.dermasciences.com/products/advanced-wound-care/medihoney/ Diamond had a terrible place on her leg where the skin was completely gone. About the size of a quarter or bigger. I used the MediHoney and cut it to the size of her wound, wrapped it, and in 3 days it looked sooooo much better. This stuff is a miracle, but it doesnt come cheap However, it was MUCH cheaper than taking her to the vet!

They aren't selling it from their website and samples are only sent to medical professionals? ETA: Oops, I just searched Google and found places online. Off to purchase a tube for my emergency kit. BatterseaBrindl
I agree that it does not look like a cut or scratch. The fact that it is perfectly round seems more like a bite of some sort. rschultz
She really isnt licking the spot. I called the vet and he has an appointment on Thursday so if it doesn't look any better I will take her in. I need to weigh her anyway. I love going there cause they announce the weight in the lobby and then I say " Lexie,u need to go on a diet" and everyone in the lobby looks at me like i am crazy (btw, lexie is very trim) Quote Lexie is gone but not forgotten.💜
rschultz
I went to the vet today. He said it is some kind of granuloma. Keep applying neosporin and leave uncovered. Lexie wore a summer hat to their office. It was a big hit. I also asked the vet if there was anything I could do for her squirrel addiction , perhaps an AA meeting for small animal addictions? He just laughed soooo hard. :rofl Her weight was great...57 Quote Lexie is gone but not forgotten.💜
