I finally got a good pic, but naturally, it's on my phone. Is there a way to get it here from there?

You should be able to e-mail the pic to yourself via your phone.

Ooh..I think I just figured it out. Boo..no..it says it's too big to upload :(

I can email it or post to FB, but not sure how to get it to GT? Forgive my obvious technological ignorance!

Waiting, waiting, waiting...GAH! I can't imagine how busy Dr Couto is, but does anyone know how long it usually takes to get a response?

You could give them a ring-- at least to make sure they received the films.

Keep us posted!

I already did  When I called, the lady who answered said Dr Couto was on vacation yesterday but she transferred me to his VM & I left a message. So trying not to freak out, but all I keep hearing about is cancer related deaths..both human and canine. God do I despise this disease :angryfire

Unfortunately, we're in a similar boat - though I just emailed our films to OSU yesterday. I'd guess you'd hear first so I should just be patient.

Sucks. Sorry you're going through this too. :(

With Buster Bloof (UCME Razorback 89B-51359) and Gingersnap Ginny (92D-59450). Missing Pepper, Berkeley, Ivy, Princess and Bauer at the bridge.

Finally heard from Dr Marin just a bit ago. She said they can't see the bump in the x-ray & asked for pics which I sent rapid fire.

In the meantime, this morning Eddie started biting at his right *front* foot. I have looked & pressed & felt everywhere and see nothing. He's been sleeping most of the day, but since he's been up he's now limping..favoring the same foot he was biting at :( I'm sick to my stomach & haven't a clue what to do now. If it is osteo..could he have a growth on one foot but be limping on another?

Edited b/c my "smart" phone helped me misspell.

Chewing on feet usually indicates an allergic reaction to something--like food; or, an imbedded object--which could cause a limp.

Also, if it's switching feet it probably isn't osteo.

I might not have worded that well. He wasn't really chewing, but it seemed like something was bothering him. Couldn't find a thing..and no dietary changes :huh

He wasn't limping until today either. The back foot has a growth, but he didn't limp until this afternoon and then favored the front foot. Maybe I'm hypersensitive to cancer right now, but my vet mentioned it as a possibility. IDK..but I appreciate your response :)

Loca was allergic to autumn grasses and chewed on her feet. Maybe it's the same with Eddie?

Unfortunately, that is how Sherman's osteo presented - a bony growth on his wrist. He was 9. I pray this is not the case for your sweet boy. Cancer SUCKS.

Kim, if Dr. Couto's team isn't able to tell you much from the photos, your next step might be to do an FNA, a fine needle aspirate. It's less invasive than a biopsy and *should* be able to tell you whether it's bone cancer or not. I'm not sure I would spend a lot of money on specialist's before doing that simple procedure (should be able to get it done without anesthesia).

What are the other things that your vet said it might be, and how would you diagnose or rule them out?

:goodluck that it's not cancer. I know it's hard, but try not to get convinced that's what it is until you have more information.

Thanks Jen. Is the FNA something my regular vet would do? I know this is terrible, but I don't remember what else he said. Once he mentioned cancer I was so upset that I didn't hear much else :(

ETA: Talked to the vet. He said it could be a bone cyst. As far as the FNA, he doesn't want to do it w/out anesthesia b/c the growth feels bony & he'd have to "dig around" to get a sample & he doesn't want to cause my boy any pain. Still nothing from OSU..

We did not do an FNA on Sherman, I remember when Sherman (and Patton) were diagnosed, I only heard my vet say 'osteo' and completely stopped listening, I was in a daze. I had to call them the next day to discuss pain management and what to expect, since I didn't listen in the office. You are not alone.

When Patton was diagnosed 6 weeks after Sherman passed, he pesented with bone lesions. He tested for Valley Fever (common in AZ dogs, and can present with bone leisons. The test takes 3 days to get results, since it is sent out to a lab for testing. During those 3 days I was a walking disaster. It was cancer, and we had to let him go.

So, I know how you feel, while waiting on OSU. When we finally got Patton's VF results, DH & I were relieved we had a concrete answer, even though the results told us osteo. We could focus on all things Patton, and manage his pain, and love on him during his final days. Unfortunately Patton was a stoic boy, and never showed us any pain until the cancer was really advanced. He was 8. F'in cancer.

I don't mean to bring you down, just letting you know that I completely understand where you are at right now.

Kelly..my heart hurts for you and everything youve been through :(

Thanks so much for the PM. I read it & cried..but haven't been able to respond yet. Eddie has not been diagnosed..and I'm praying w/every breath I take that it's not osteo..but even having to consider this, especially so soon after my own diagnosis, is making me sick..and crazy.

ETA: I didn't mean for that to sound insensitive. Cancer SUCKS regardless of the circumstances..and it's NEVER a good time for anyone :(

Just got an email from Dr Marin:

The bump you mentioned is more likely an indicator of arthritis, we did not

see any evidence of cancer in Eddie’s x-rays.
