Charlies_Dad
Up until recently, Shelby would take a couple good runs around the backyard and other than Charlie running after her all was fine. In the last month or so, she sounds like Darth Vador after one circle around the yard. She also will occasionally hack inside just like the video of Riley when he had LP. So it looks like our senior girl may be going in for the tie-back surgery as she loves to run so much (not that she is an athlete by any means) and we don't want to rob her of that in her senior years. I have researched the threads about LP and it seems like the surgery makes sense as I no way want her to be struggling to breath and racing to the e-vet. I'll touch base with our three vets, yes, we have three: one for teeth cleaning, one for general check-ups and Charlie's chemo and an orthopaedic surgeon for Charlie. I barely see my one doctor! We'll have her checked out and discuss all options before moving forward with surgery. cacky
Really sorry to hear of your little girl hope things work out well. Being somewhat new and not knowing how to move around this forum that well, how does one find the thread on LP. Looks like something I may want to read. Thanks and again good luck at the vets. Guest greytfulhounds
Kyle, if there is anything I can do to help you with your decision or any questions before or after, please feel free to contact me. I don't come to GT as much as I did when Danny was sick with the osteo....still too hard to read the osteo thread. I think of Charlie often & keep him in my prayers. A month after I lost Danny I had the tie-back surgery done on my Hunter. Hunter is 12 years old & it is the best gift I could have ever given him. Please, feel free to contact me any time with questions & if you would like my number to speak in person, please ask & I will provide it. Sending lots of good thoughts & prayers to your Shelby! NeylasMom
Sorry to hear this Kyle, as if you don't have enough on your plate keeping Charlie in tip top shape. I hope the surgery turns out to be the right choice for Shelby so that she can move right past this. Aside: Hi Sherry, we miss you. Hope you're doing okay. MP_the4pack
I put a relatively long answer in the last LP thread. Here's a notebook version. My 11 yr old Onyx had the tieback and did GREAT until she passed this past winter at age 15.5 not related to her LP.
Guest GordonInTo
Did Shebly get the LP surgery? My guy seems to sound like Darth vader too. Is this a simple surgery? I'm nervious on putting Jack under the knife! thx
MP_the4pack
I'm curious too. GordonInTo, do you get CG magazine? There are two articles in there. One written by a vet and I wrote the other one. I had the surgery for my 11 yr old who lived to 15.5. Charlies_Dad
No, Shelby did not get any surgery as she did not have LP. It seems that she just had a very irritated throat in the end. She was treated with meds and recovered fine. greytpups
Well, that's wonderful news. I was hoping you weren't having a string of health issues with your pups, even if this is an old thread. Thanks again Sorry but I do not recall the meds but I believe they were just some anti-inflammatory meds. We never did determine what caused the irritated throat but if your pup continues to have it after the meds, then perhaps you need to do the next step, an endoscopy if the throat is the issue. I would suggest you create a post in H&M and note all the symptoms, what you have done so far and I am sure you will receive a lot more experienced advice than mine.
