Guest greytbookert
Something isn't right with him. Here is a quick run down on the various items that have us concerned: Seems as though he has yet another sheath infection! His rear right leg is bruised from the knee down and we don't recall him falling or slipping and we are always out with him. He has a white spot on his right eye, actually two His eyes are a little goopy and runny He's been stumbling a bit the past day or so and quite frankly, he smells funny. Not dirty smell, not bad teeth smell, just a smell that isn't pleasant. oh sometimes he looks lost, you know that senior look that they sometimes get? he just turned 12 at the end of November.... silverfish
Oh poor Eric ... It sounds almost as if he has something 'whole-body' going on here. If your vet doesn't have a handle on it, I'd ask for a specialist consult ASAP. The smell suggests to me something serious is going on. Can you pinpoint where it's coming from? Is it his breath? If so, it could be kidney or liver involvement/failure. If not, it could simply be his sheath infection, if it's a bad one. Could it be a fungal thing like blastomycosis? I don't know much about the symptoms because we don't have it here, but I know it can involve lameness, and skin and eye problems. Sending many good vibes and gentle scritches for Eric. Sorry - edited for spelling. My 'c' key doesn't seem to be working properly. Sorry - edited for spelling. My 'c' key doesn't seem to be working properly. Doesn't it seem whole body!? I can't pinpoint the smell. His shealth area has its own icky smell. His breath smells ok, normal, certainly not rotten tooth smell. It's strange, I noticed the smell before I noticed the sheath pus, so maybe that is it. The appointment is in an hour, so I'll post an update when we get back. I'm sure the standards will be done, complete bloodwork, urinalysis and culture, and maybe an xray this time... poor boy, he hates going there! Sending many good thoughts. I'll check back for an update. Quote The plural of anecdote is not dataBrambleberry Greyhounds My Etsy Shop

Guest greytbookert
We're back... Antibiotics and flushing for the sheath, yet another sheath infection, this one is raging! The eye thing, they did a stain and it appears to just be fat deposits, nothing alarming and no damage to the cornea. the bruising thing.... they'll be checking the platlets but we are expecting that to be normal like it always is the smell, not his breath but she thinks that I was smelling the infection, which is possible. So we will be watching him, as always, like a hawk. She is also going to some research over the weekend because even she thinks that it is strange that he keeps getting them, seemingly every 2 months or so.... Thanks for thinking of us and we'll keep you updated if anything changes. and here is pic of Eric taken just the other day... just because Edited February 11, 2011 by greytbookert
Guest bethac
He's beautiful - and the update sounds good, all things considered. Let's hope they can figure out why he keeps getting these sheath infections. I was glad to see your update ... have been following this thread and looking for your news. Keep us posted on your boy. Houndtime
Fuzzy is on his third different antibiotic for a sheath infection. I have had him visit the vet once a week for the past three weeks. Ugh! I just want this to get better. He doesn't seem to be bothered by it, but he passes blood. The pus part of the infection has gone away over a month ago.
