Guest MorganKonaAlex Posted July 8, 2009 Share Posted July 8, 2009 Demon's heart ultrasound found his heart to be in better shape than originally thought. I suspect the Vets looking at the xrays aren't use to greyhound hearts. Diagnosis: Chronic valvular disease - Mitral valve - Mild, Tricuspid valve - Mild w/mild R heart enlargement XRays suggest significant cardiomegaly but echo reveals mild changes. No mass seen. No pericardial effusion present. Findings: II/VI Left apical and R sided systolic murmur was noted. Pulse quality was normal. Color was pink with a 1 second refull time noted. Pulmonary auscultation was within normal limits. He was cleared for surgery and after a lot of soul searching, we decided to go with amputation and chemo. It was a hard decision. This is the 3rd grey with osteo in 3.5 years. Morgan never had a recurrence and lived to be 13.5 (3 years post amputation). Alex developed lung mets while still in chemo. We've had the 2 extreme outcomes. We met with the surgeon, Dr. Massat, this morning. Dr. Massat is the surgeon that performed Winslow's amputation. Knowing how aggressive osteo is, we asked for a surgical date as soon as possible. He said he could do it today. We left him there for the surgery later today.
