dmswartzfager Posted February 17, 2009 Share Posted February 17, 2009 Well, as I posted in EEG with her Gotcha Day thread, we've been having trouble with Carrie's appetite for about 2 months now. We thought it was the Deramaxx causing her tummy troubles, but after switching around her medications, we came to the realization that was not it. So I scheduled her for abdominal X-rays this morning and we have just returned. There is an unexplained mass in her abdomen behind her stomach - very dense. Even with the digital X-ray and varying the contrast and density and whatnot, the vet couldn't see what it might be attached to or anything like that. So she was able to get us in with the vet she feels is the best ultrasound person in the area - we have an appointment on Thursday at 10:30 am. We're prepared to hear the word cancer and have started considering the scenarios. She seems more comfortable than she has been, but barely ate anything today. I'm going to give her some more tramadol and some cyproheptadine (appetite stimulant, so hopefully she'll be hungry when we feed around 5:30 am) in a few minutes before we head off to bed. dmswartzfager Posted February 19, 2009 Author Share Posted February 19, 2009 (edited) We just had a long conversation with Dr. Patty (my friend, and not the vet who took the X-rays), who looked at the X-rays, looked at Carrie, and discussed possible options. If it's a stomach tumor, spoil her and let her go when it's time, if it's a spleen, take it out, if it's a liver, we need to think carefully. She still wants to talk to the surgeon, if we get that far, so she can be sure we'll do what's best for Carrie and for us. We feel better about our options and our ability to make the right decision after tomorrow's ultrasound.
