The Ongoing Saga Of Monty's Lymphoma Incision

Monty's huge incision for his lymphosarcoma never healed properly . He just saw the vet and we were told he needs to go back under Monday to have the edges debreeded (?) and re-sewn , which means more anesthesia, more days of limiting his movement, more days with the bite-not collar, and more money. Oy vey!

On the other hand , they said he looks great for a dog with cancer!

I'm so sorry to read this...but debriding the wound probably is necessary and will help Monty heal better overall. This is one of the options I discussed with the vet when Grace was attacked a little over a year ago. The vet first had me flush the wound 2-3 times a day and changed our antibiotics, which did the trick with her. She did not have to go back in for surgery a second time, so maybe discuss that with the vet first.

Can you post pics of what the wound looks like? PM me if you'd like more details.

Feel better soon Monty, I'm glad to hear that your vet thinks you look great!

Poor Monty and poor Karen. It is so hard when they don't do well.

I have a feeling that things are going to turn around now. 2009 will bring you all good things. Just think good, positive thoughts and energy.

Ack. Poor Monty. However, that should speed up the healing. I also would say you must flush it a few times a day. Pure water. I take a large syringe (no needle) a bowl of water, fill and flush away.

Oy! That's one tough spot to heal right there, isn't it? :( The stitching towards the outside of the incision looks great though. Debriding would likely be best for him, you might want to ask about flushing and antibiotics (a different type in case the bacteria was resistant in the first place, thus the trouble in healing) after the surgery. I hope all goes well and he heals fast. Poor guy, poor you, poor wallet. :(

Kinda creepy looking, but try not to worry over it. We've had things look like they were healed, taken the stitches out, gone home, and a day later had the former incision peel right back open -- and this in dogs without Monty's challenges. Happens sometimes. I'm betting 2nd round of stitches will do it for him.
