fsugrad
Our beloved whippet, Comet, crossed the Bridge this afternoon. He was very weak, and just couldn't go on any longer. We spent his last hours sitting on our front porch swing, rocking with him. Comet is the only dog we've ever seen who loved to swing the afternoons away. The front porch swing was his favorite spot in our yard. Our boys grew up with Comet. They were only 1 and 3 when Comet joined our family. They are now almost-12 and 14 years old. I spent many a late night up with a sick baby or toddler, with Comet at my side, as he "helped" me take care of the boys. His passing was very peaceful. My husband and sons said goodbye to him, and I stayed in the room with him and held his head in my hands as he crossed over, telling him all the while what a good boy he was and how much we loved him. We will miss him so much, but we know that he was ready to go, and we take comfort in knowing we did the right thing. He is now pain free and whole again, able to run and play at the Bridge with all the other beautiful pups that are already there. I want to thank everyone for all of their kind words, advice, and prayers, which helped our family prepare for and get through this. One more thing-- a couple of hours before Comet's dreaded appointment today, our mail arrived, and my new green Hope For Hounds t-shirt from Alisha at 2 Hounds was there. I put the shirt on and wore it to the appointment. It made me feel like all the wonderful people at GT were there with me, supporting me through this whole thing. I know that probably sounds really cheesy, but that is how I felt. Here is a picture of Comet in happier times, when he and my son won 1st place in the Dog Days Run about 6 years ago. Comet was so happy that day! We will love Comet forever and pray that he sends us a sign to let us know that he completed his journey to the Bridge. Guest SueG201
I am so sorry for the loss of Comet, I lost a whippet to erhlicia a few years back, and it broke my heart to let her go. Her little body just gave out. I adore my greyhounds so much, but whippies just seem to melt your heart with t heir big brown eyes. RIP Comet, and may you find my beloved Nell at the bridge waiting to run and play.

Guest paulamariez
I am so sorry about the loss of your beloved Comet. He was a gorgeous whippet! He looked so happy in his picture. Thanks for posting it. My heart goes out to you and your family, because I've had to put down two of my hounds and it was the most traumatic thing I've ever went through next to my younger brother dying. Comet's love will be alive forever in your hearts and I truly believe we will be together with our beloved hounds one day again when our time comes! Tiger, Bueller and Domino are sending you some sad doggie kisses too.
