The other dogs are very quiet and keep checking on Hobbes' favorite beds to see if he is there. We've been trying to take them out for walks and giving extra attention to get past this sad time. Hobbes was such a large presence in our home - he quietly (especially the last year) was the hub of activity and the other hounds (and me) revolved around him. Yesterday when I let the dogs out the back door I had a sudden image (and could almost hear) of the young Hobbes running from the front of the house when the door opened to go out and exploding out the door into the yard. He would make this mad dash, then slow to a bounce with his ears flopping up & down as if the announce "I'm here"! Thats the boy we had for most of our time with him. It was a nice memory and gave me some comfort. He spent the last 8 months unable to go for walks with the other dogs, tried to chase squirrels by bouncing like a kangaroo on his back legs but soon realized his best activity was to spread out in comfort on a cozy bed. We were blessed with him for eleven years - now the hard part is going on without him. Thank you again for all your kindness - it really does help.
