If only it didn't have to hurt so bad and we could just take comfort knowing they are running free at the bridge with so many others that were there to greet him. He knows he was loved. You couldn't have known what was going on. Please don't beat yourself up over this. You took him to the vet and did everything you could for him. They both died of hemangio on March 2 and were about the same age. I am as sorry for your loss as I am for ours. Hemangio is a terrible illness. He had a few more hours with those he loves and that all he would ask. Your experience mirrors the loss of our Pointer a couple years ago...oh how time has passed.
