Guest LovesDoggies
For background info, please see my related post. http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showto...p;#entry3138743 I live in CT. We have one veterinary neurologist in state. Next apptmt is 1/15. She is not in the office tomorrow so I can't even try to plead for an appointment. Maybe we would be able to see her on Monday if I go in on an emergency basis and if she can review his case. So, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good neurologist within driving distance of CT. I can call in the morning and plead for an appointment . . . .
BauersMom
I highly recommend Dr. Sisson at Angell Memorial in Boston. I don't know that he'll be able to see you sooner, but he was great to work with. Quote With Buster Bloof (UCME Razorback 89B-51359) and Gingersnap Ginny (92D-59450). MP_the4pack
Depending on where in Ct you are, you might be just 2 hrs away from Red Bank, NJ. Dr Glass is spectacluar. He knows greyhounds too. I don't know if you'd be able to get to see him right away, but Red Bank is a 24/7 hospital. You'd take the Tappen Zee to 287 south. Then to Parkway south.....exit 109. The hospital is only minutes from the Parkway exit. PM me if you need more info.
DaisyDoodle
The NJ lead sounds promising. If not, Angell Memorial in Boston takes emergency cases and someone has already noted someone there. I'd call them tonight. It's a really big place, there should be someone there to talk to you. Guest Winterwish
call the animal medical center in nyc (just a safety issue if you take him in to the Animal Medical Center, the surrounding blocks are very, very busy traffic wise. Between that and your boy very likely being nervous,it's so important to have the martingale on very snug.) I hope you have an answer soon for how to help Bruce. 2fawngreys
I second Dr. Glass in NJ! My Bubba actually has an appointment with him today! he's great - as is the whole hospital! They are 24 hour emergency as well, so you could probably get him seen somehow! We are going to Dr. Glass's hospital on an emergency basis today, and hope to see him, or if not, another neurologist as they have several on staff there. I could not get an apptmt until Monday. I am seriously crying in my office right now. You are all so wonderful for helping us. I would not have known about this hospital. It's 2.5 hrs away. We will be there this afternoon. Thank you. Houndtime
Good luck at Red Bank. The hospital has specialists for every need. The doctors are warm and caring and the facility is beautiful. It is a little expensive, but, worth it. Brandy used to go the opthomologist there, Dr. Ringel. The do treat a lot of greyhounds there, too. Guest Winterwish
LovesDoggies it sounds like an excellent place! Your asking for suggestions is so helpful to others too. I hadn't heard of it either,-and it's only an hour away. Continued good thoughts headed out to you and Bruce.
sweetdogs
I've heard good things about Red Bank - I'm sure you'll be in good hands. AERA in Fairfield NJ is also excellent (& a little closer) should you need an alternate. Best of luck for you & Bruce. Guest LovesDoggies
Thanks again for such supportive e-mails. I'm back in CT, and Bruce is resting on a comfy bed (they assured me) at Red Bank in NJ. The hospital is really wonderful and huge, too. There must have been about 20-25 people with their pets in the reception area. Bruce had a wonderful time greeting everyone. He loves attention (from anyone!) and he received lots of it. Despite the volume of people, everything went so smoothly and efficiently. The e-vet (also a greyhound owner ) quickly determined that Bruce has an issue with his brain, not with his spine. Dr. Glass examined Bruce (I was not present at this point) and spoke with me afterward. Bruce needs an MRI for diagnosis. Dr. Glass would not speculate as to the cause of his symptoms. They use a human MRI machine at the "human hospital" right next door. They start using it at 4 in the morning on weekdays. That's when Dr. Glass comes in. He was speaking to me at 6:30 on a Friday evening, so needless to say, I was very impressed at his willingness to help us (sans appointment). Dr. Glass wants me to come back on Monday to go over the MRI with him, to talk about what to do next and to pick up my boy and bring him home. He did say that he did not think Bruce's situation was not super-urgent because he said whatever he is suffering from, he's had since October and that the steroids only masked his symptoms. I am glad that we will have a diagnosis soon. Bruce is a very special boy. I hope he gets back on track soon.
