Guest guinness_the_greyt
My vet just called.... Memphis' bloodwork is back... He is his Valley Fever titer is at 1:32... at 1:32 there are bone lesions and can also be in the center nervous system. There is no reason to do an xray.... we already know the lesions are there so it will do no good but confirm it. VF is treatable... however some hounds do not do well on the meds... I have had 2 friends lose their hounds to VF. Brooklyn had VF but had a much lower titer and was on HALF the dose of meds Memphis will be on and her stomach got so upset she almost stopped eating. I will just do everything I can to keep Memphis interested in food for the minimum of 6 months he will have to be on such a high dose of Fluconazole. Thanks for everyones good thoughts... I will keep you posted on his progress over the next couple weeks.

Burpdog
Ask vet if you can use pepcid, tagamet or zantac and carafate. Acupuncture will help. I have some Quiet Digestion (chinese herbs) that needs to be used but you have to clear it with the vet. Guest guinness_the_greyt
I'm very positive about the whole thing.... And to be honest I am very happy its VF as opposed to LS... Giving the meds is no problem and we know they will work... as long as I can keep him chowing down we will be all good. I have the consult with the new acupuncturist this week so I'm sure we will discuss not only his stiffness but also what method to go with to help aid his tummy!! I will call my vet tomorrow to ask about the tummy meds and the chineses herbs... Im sure the acupuncturist will be all for herbs! It's sad that greyhounds do not show any of the early signs of VF like other breeds do... I feel bad he got this far along and I didn't know it. 300mg of Fluconazole 2x a day is a lot.... Brooklyn was on 155mg 2x a day.... Big difference.

NevadasMom
Hopefully everything will go well Amanda. My friends over in Mesa have a dog that had VF & she did very well. And I'm walking proof that VF is treatable. I had the disease in 2000. I do agree that the treatment stinks. Makes you feel terrible. Sending hugs..........
