Guest PittyPat
Lilah is my grey's cousin. (Therefore yes, Alicia is my sister.) If you were never lucky enough to meet them in person you missed a great team. It's not a funny episode but a funny phrase: whenever Lilah wanted something (food, stuffie, a door to be opened...) Alicia would urge her on, "Come on Lilah, use your thumbs! So while I know that Lilah now has wings, I can only hope that she has thumb too! Guest Lala
This is the Lilah tribute that my father wrote: It's very sweet. EARS UP!! Ears up! She's home. The ears belonged to Lilah, the sweetest, most loving of dogs. The "She" was Alicia, her dearest, most faithful and ever caring companion in life. It was indeed companion not in any sense a simple owner dog relationship. The sign at the entrance to our house says "We Love Our Granddogs" and we surely do. But Lilah had a special role among the granddogs. We had "doggie day care" for her every day at our house while Alicia was at work. At least that's what we thought the arrangement was. From Lilah's perspective she was the one who was providing the day care. She was looking out for us. On reflection, that must be true. If we were in the kitchen, she would invariably be under the dining room table. She would always have her head in a position to keep us in view. Oh she would pretend to be asleep, but with a wink and a blink of greyhound quickness she would be ever watchful. When we went into the living room she would make a big show of fixing her bed for comfort, but again it was really to find the best angle to keep us in view. She loved to go out in the car and it was "ears up" at the very suggestion. How else could she watch out for us if she didn't go along. WE WILL MISS HER EVER SO MUCH We will remember how when Alicia would finally come home for the night Lilah's ears would shoot up and she would begin her teddy bear frolic routine, dashing back and forth around the house and tossing the teddy bear up in the air. If the day had been especially long she might, when Alicia came in, give her the two pawed shoulder slap. Greyhounds have two distinct attributes. They are born and bred to run faster and faster for relatively short distances. Some excel at this and are used and exploited by those who seek to profit from this ability. But the successful racers too often end up the same as those rejected as racers, abandoned by owners who have no sense of what wonderful creatures they are. Innately greyhounds are born to love with the same intensity with which they run. Lilah was one whose preeminent ability was to be a truly loving companion with an unexcelled sense of devotion which she bestowed upon her companion, Alicia. When she arrived in doggie heaven it is certain this was recognized and she was told to sit (or if she chose, to recline) in the honored place of a champion as BEST OF BREED.
