Guest CorbysMom
My world was a better, happier, gentler, more loving, more generous and more fulfilling place to be. I learned to keep the lights down low, the tv turned down and to walk slowly, with my hands in my pockets, to calm a super spook. I learned to slow down, period. I learned just how fast a jumbo hedgie can be unstuffed, how many squeakers come in a bag of replacement squeakers, that starlings can be caught in mid flight and the softer the bed, the happier The Doggy. I learned that some emotional scars can never be overcome, but they can be softened with time, patience, love, understanding and a few carefully placed cookies from time to time. I learned that the way to a boy's heart truly is through his stomach. I learned that sleeping teetering on the edge of the bed while a certain cowdoggy stretched to unimaginable lengths is a learned bit of finesse. I learned that perpendicular is the only word in the greyhound sleeping vernacular. I learned that even the most petrified boy can make a difference in the lives of many, many greyhounds across the country. Because of Spottydog, the SPOT Fund (Special People Offering Treatment) was created. It still lives to this day. It's my boy's legacy. My vet is sending his contribution to this fund, in memory of my Spottydog. I'll spare you the details of my decision to let my heart boy go. Suffice to say, it was extremely evident he was ready. I probably waited a day too long, but I was hoping for one last rebound. He wasn't completely comfortable, but he didn't suffer. I never would have allowed that. My friend Gloria sent the kindest email to me last night. One line read, "How these wonderful babies quietly sail into our hearts." And sail into my heart he did, as quietly and as gently as he passed. Spotty did gentle better than any boy I knew. For the first time in almost a decade, I have no greyhound to love. I'm stupefied at that thought. It won't stay that way for long. I will honor all of my greyhounds' memories by adopting another soon. Fly free and strong, brave and true, my little man. No one in the world could have loved you the way I do. http://tinyurl.com/34nta3 Nancy & The Lost Boys - Harrison, Corby, Paulie, Fuse, Eli and my newest angel, Spottydog - all playing at the Bridge
