  1. Leaving her be is a good first step. She knows she can be alone and safe in her crate and keep an eye on all you new people. And you've figured out you need to hide to get her to come back in, that's "normal". Just very small steps, allowing her the time (could be months) to ease into this new world. Sitting on the floor in the same room as her crate just reading or watching TV, but with a couple treats for when she eventually comes out (and for when she will take a treat from you, or you may need to place it on the floor for her to pick up). But just providing a safe place and a calm environment will help her lots. Thanks for taking care of her.
  2. I recall hearing horror stories about adhesives and greyhound skin, so I would not attempt to use duct tape... hopefully someone who has been in a similar situation will have a great idea for you.
  3. I just saw this, an am so sorry for you and the loss of this beautiful white boy. many prayers to you and the rest of your "pack"
  4. Oh, Batmom... you are too smart for words. I love the idea of offering the pill wrapped in PB then extra fingers to be licked... perfect. I am going to try that next time... so smart!
  5. Oh, I am so sorry. What a special girl and it has been a joy to see all the photos you have taken of her, and so many others hounds over the years. Prayers for your family's loss
  6. Our broken hock boy also gets glucosamine added to his food each day, 1200mg I believe. We've had him for 4 years and he is now 9. We have noticed a definite stiffening with him if he does not get the added glucosamine. He is stiffer after lying down but loosens up quickly. We have not had to modify walks for him, but if it is a particularly rambunctious day he might get a doggie aspirin. We can tell he is getting stiffer with age, but nothing dramatic yet.
  7. Ruby ate a whole stick of butter, wrapper and all, and had no distress... so hopefully the same will be for you
  8. What a horrible horrible day... do please keep us informed
  9. I was wondering if he had had a fall while you were out and was just scared of the stairs. But then your vet visit made me think not... I too would now wonder about a stroke? Do let us know what else you learn at the vets again
  10. Lots of prayers for you and Beau. Please keep eating sweet boy.
  11. Yeah, greyhound in pants! Our boy Kingsley was also completely traumatized by the gigantic e-collar but he was very good at leaving his surgery alone when we were with him, so we just had someone with him 24/7 during his healing process. (we have amazing friends who would dog-sit him and just be there to tell him "no" if he went for his stitches) Hope she heals well!
  12. If ours get a gurgley tummy at night, we give them a piece of bread as a snack to fill their bellies a bit... that has always worked... so I think it is hunger, not an upset.
  13. Yeah for the good news and great vet-care
  14. After all those day-to-day, feeding-to-feeding struggles with him, I am so glad you can look back and see how far he has come and know all that emotion was worth it!
  15. Oh no! my heart dropped when I saw his name... many many prayers for you at this huge loss
  16. Ours sometimes get gurgley tummys late at night if they are a bit hungry, and we will give them a piece of bread which seems to be the cure-all to make the tummy stop rumbling. Glad you are getting it looked at though with the bloody stool.
  17. This isn't Beverly Natural Animal Hospital is it? I think I thought you went there and we have been extremely impressed with them (Dr. Rickets in particular). But definitely find someone else if you are not comfortable with what you are hearing from them!
  18. Ruby has way more speckles that when we got her... just a year and a half's time
  19. Kingsley lost 14 teeth earlier this year. We still allow his food to soak a bit before he eats, but he can master a crunchy treat as well as a soft one (and he only has 2 teeth directly above-and-below each other any more! Phoenix will stop drooling, Kingsley just drooled that first evening.
  20. Welcome from Beverly -- just across the bridge!
  21. I can't recall the name of it now, but our vet gave us a topical "antibiotic cream" that is safe for pets (ie, it's ok if they eat it) that we will use on all those scraps our two get on their feet/legs.
  22. How did I miss this?!? Oh my, I am so sorry for all the emotion your family has been going (and continues to go) through. Many many prayers for you, your husband and your pack so so sorry
  23. After reading your daily schedule you posted yesterday (?) I was already exhausted for you.... I do not know how your family is holding it together with Polli and Beau and the constant concern and care everyone needs. Oh I do hope relief can be brought to Polli today and that you all might be able to nap the weekend away.
  24. Yeah for some good news and progress for Beau!
