What a horrible loss. I am so very sorry. Godspeed Shayla.
  2. for Mr. Baby. Having just had Cora go through it, I wouldn't wish an FCE on any dog, but it's better than a disk problem. Cora too was weak on one side and not in any apparent pain, and that was most of what caused my vet to think it was an FCE rather than a disk. Also: her front leg on the same side was affected, so a disk problem would have to be in her neck, but her neck was not sore. Time is really the only medicine for an FCE, although some treat with steroids; we couldn't because Cora was on an NSAID. I sure hope Mr. Baby recovers quickly and completely.
  3. Sprains/strains can cause deep bruising--that doesn't show up for a while--in people, so I guess it could happen in dogs too. I'd continue to rest him until he's not having trouble getting up.
  4. I'm so very sorry. Your gorgeous special girl left much too soon. Godspeed Penny.
  5. Oh no! What a horrible shock and terrible loss. Your precious boy left much too soon. I am so very sorry. Godspeed Jed.
  6. I prefer 3M Liquid Bandage--the drops, not the applicator. More effective and doesn't sting. (My hands cracked in the winter, so I've tried everything.)
  7. Congratulations! He sure has a gorgeous face.
  8. I'm so sorry. Godspeed Dyna.
  9. for successful surgery and more clean margins.

  12. How heartbreaking. I am so very sorry.
  13. Oh no. Losing one is heartbreaking but losing two... Godspeed Traveller. Godspeed Aang.
  14. I'm so very sorry. He was one of my favourite GT hounds. Godspeed Quiet Man.
  15. It has now been almost 3 weeks since Cora's FCE, and almost 2 since my last post, so I thought I'd do one more update: The day of the last update (#78), I started taking Cora through the front of the house to start our walks, so she could practice on the stairs and slippery floors. The next night, Cora had her first walk with the rest of her usual group. She hasn't looked back. A couple of days later, she had her first post-walk, pre-breakfast play session: and chew: That night (or one around then) she joined us upstairs at bedtime. She was a bit unsettled at first, but gradually relaxed. That pattern continued for the next few nights, but she's OK now. She gradually improved at stairs and pooping, needing less and less support. This week, we stopped using the harness. I haven't put it away just yet, but so far she's been able to manage without it. On Friday, she was allowed freedom in the yard for the first time since she broke her femur in March (see Cora Sings " Born Free"). When she gets a bit more stable and I can be sure she won't get into trouble on the stairs or ramp, she'll be allowed to go out to the potty area on her own. By then she should also be well enough to have her freedom in the house when she's wearing her fashionable non-slip socks. She's not completely healed, but she's made a lot of progress, and she should make it all the way back. Thank you for your good wishes. They really help.
  16. :yay I hope she continues to improve...fairly steadily, if possible, to save wear and tear on your own nerves.
  17. I'm so very sorry. Godspeed Cuz.
  18. :goodluck :goodluck Started chanting and won't stop until we get the good words that she's A OK.
  19. Yikes. Poor Blitz. Poor you. I hope he feels better soon, and that some of the not-so-good things improve. I understand exactly what you mean about learning medicine for all the wrong reasons...
