  1. How incredibly sad. Godspeed Rachael.
  2. It didn't happen to either of mine--both left rear, one femur, other tibia.
  3. I'm so very sorry. I'm glad your precious girl was able to wait long enough to meet Courtney. Godspeed Mandy.
  4. It's a bit hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like what's been happening to Betsy's back. The vet said Betsy had an infection--possibly due to seasonal allergies (which she does have). I'd already tried Benedryl and Reactine, so the vet added antibiotics and a very low dose of steroids. It's probably worth trying the Benadryl, and then head off to the vet if it doesn't help.
  5. Congratulations! Wonder if he'll bounce into the house like Just Jack.
  6. I hope you have encouraging results soon. Cora had an FCE--on her "good" right side while still recovering from a broken left femur. She was essentially a one-legged dog for a time. She did not have steroids because there is some controversy over their use, and, in any event, she had been on an NSAID and could not be given steroids. She recovered quite well from her FCE. I think Isis's improvement so far is a very good sign. I hope she'll continue to recover quickly and completely.

  11. It's an extraordinarily difficult, situational, and personal decision. You can only do what seems best for you and your precious boy. and
  12. Tally lasted 16 weeks. She could have gone at least a few days longer, but I knew what was going to happen. We caught it fairly early. At first we did x-rays every couple of weeks, but the OS was progressing steadily and not all that rapidly, and the x-rays were uncomfortable for her, so we cut the frequency to about once a month. She'd had her last set--showing progress but not anything terrifying--just a week before she suddenly went very lame. She was on pain meds only, which were adjusted each time she started limping. At first it was Metacam, then we added Tramadol, then more frequent Tramadol, then a higher dosage. She was on the maximum dosages of both at the end. Cora? I don't know. I suspect the OS was there, but not visible, when she broke her leg in March. I'm sure it was there and hiding behind the repair hardware when she started limping again in August. She lasted another couple of months, on pain meds only.
  13. I'm glad his mouth is OK. I wish you didn't have to endure the uncertainty about his side. (Maybe it was the lab?)
  14. I'm glad he's home. He looks great, and the incision looks good.
  15. I'm so very sorry. It may only have been 8 months, but it was her best 8 months ever. I will miss the photos and stories. Godspeed Princess.
