  1. This is new to me. Anyone have experience or suggestions on helping a dog that only has 30% of his eye sight. I know there is no cure and he will be completely blind in a few years. Thanks in advance!
  2. My group has an article about seizures in their most recent newsletter. Go to www.greyhoundwelfare.org and select newsletter. It's in the Spring 2012 issue.
  3. I had a foster that had beautiful teeth but horrid breath. My vet suggested a Pepcid and it worked.
  4. Simple Solutions is wonderful! It has cleaned old stains out of my sand colored carpet - yes what was I thinking when I picked the color! They also make one for carpet cleaners.
  5. I have seen PVC fence looking panels that you put around trash cans, outside gas tanks etc. I think I saw them in Solutions and/or Improvements catalog.
  6. My first two greys were lactose intolerant, so no yogurt. I got sweet potatoes, sliced them and steamed them instead. I still do that with my current greys. Some people give pumpkin, but there was a shortage of pumpkin in the past few years.
  7. You can make your own jerky very easily. Doing it in the oven takes forever. You can get a dehydrator for under $30 at Walmart. Do not add anything. You can get your butcher to slice it very thin if you don't have a slicer. If you want to slice it yourself, slightly freeze the meat first, it will slice easier. You can do turkey, chicken, beef, duck, venison, rabbit and all kinds of fruits. Bananas, Sweet potatoes, carrots and apples are favorites here.
  8. I just got these new treats to make. My pups love them. You don't have to get the tray, but it's fun!You can use a regular ice cube tray. www.freezypups.com
  9. I was told my 12 yr old return girl was afraid of thunderstorms. We do not make a big deal about storms, just situation normal. She has yet to even raise her head up from the dog bed during storms.
  10. A good walk before bedtime? A tired dog is a good dog. This always helps with my fosters.
  11. If you want to buy treats, I am giving my old senior girl Joint Max treats. They are soft.
  12. I had a senior foster that had horrible breath but wonderful teeth. My Holistic vet told me that anything in the mouth comes from the stomach. She suggested giving her a Pepcid in the AM. After three days her breath was perfect.
  13. I swear by Springtime supplements, Fresh Factors and Joimt Health. Two of mine take them like treats, but my old girl doesn't like to chew them, so I got the Longevity powder which has both of them in it. I recommend giving the highest dose for an older dog.
  14. I use Equyss (sp) coat and skin conditioner. Spray on and wipe down. My black boy came to me with a horrible coat and this got him back in shape in no time. I also give 4 fish oil gels a day. I have started using Honest Kitchen Sparkle and it has made a huge difference in all of my dogs.
  15. I say the tramadol. My two bridge kids did the same on Tramadol. It can also make them a bit jumpy and grumpy. I have taken it and it makes me very nervous.
  16. I swear by Springtime supplements Fresh Factor and Joint Health. Many stories about how well they work, but recently I had a 10 yr old bounce that had a hard time standing and his back end would give out. I started him on the supplements and his new adopters continued. He is now happily running in the yard with his brothers and running up and down the stairs!
  17. I get chicken backs and turkey necks by the case at the farmers market. I have to ask them a week in advance, so they can bring it along.
  18. Boo is shedding like crazy! Her jammies looked like a white fur coat after two nites of them being on! I took her outside with the furminator and it looks like it snowed in my yard!
  19. $250 here, with no extractions. I can't remember how much the bloodwork is though. February is dental health month and my vet gives a 20% off discount. NGAP does cleanings for around discounted price also.
  20. Prayers being sent your way. Also, in my human experience and pup experience with Tramadol, it does make me jittery and I have found in my pups it makes them pant and pace.
  21. Just a heads up, I find that particular kind very hard to adjust. I have had many new dogs that come with them and they are a pain! Maybe it's just me.
  22. Midwest Greyhound adoption that sells them. I know they go to GIG and Dewey every year.
  23. Maybe do it the same way as you do for small children, put it in the corner of their eye, they blink and it goes in. Just a thought.
  24. petextras.com My dogs love them. A change from bullysticks. They don't last as long as bullysticks, but they are different.
  25. Never smoked or cooked bones. A friend of mine did it for years with her grey until the grey had to have $5000.00 worth of surgery to get a blockage out. It was the bone pieces. Chicken backs, turkey necks, bullysticks, marrow bones and sting ray tails here.
