  1. My dogs have "sniff spots" along our walking routes. This is the only time they are allowed to sniff, mark, pee or poop. My foster dogs learn this quickly and even dogs that I have watched in the past remember where the spots are when they come back. Also, if you are letting him stop all of the time, he is not really getting exercise. If you're out for 45 minutes and he sniffs 30 minutes, he is not really getting walked that much.
  2. Dr. Kellogg will take care of you! She's wonderful! My thoughts are with you.
  3. HA! The first time I gave Kiaba a turkey neck he brought it into the LR and peed on it! The only time he peed in the house. I guess he claimed it. I rinsed it off and he happily ate it in his crate. Never did it again.
  4. Get a poop guard, smear it with PB and freeze it. Put it on the muzzle when you are ready to dremmel. I also find with some dogs it's eaier to do with them standing up. Have someone hold them or tether tightly.
  5. If she runs to her crate at feeding time, feed her in her crate. All of my dogs are feed in their crates. This helps when I have multiple dogs in the house. I second the runners/floor mats. Walmart has them for a good price and they are washable. I had to use them for my Chloe. She wasn't afraid of them when I first got her, but she developed hind end weakness and her back end would slide out from under her. That's when she became afraid of the floors.
  6. I have them and hope I never need to use them. I don't think it's a good idea to use them in "play". You may need them in an emregency and you don't want them to get desensitized.
  7. I also have one in my house, SUV and in the bag I take when I walk. It's actually on the recommended list for our adopters.
  8. I think the key here is to use a holistic vet. I ended up going to a holistic vet for Kiaba's allergies that came out in his mouth. With Chinese herbs and a diet change his mouth cleared up within six months. Even Dr. C was impressed.
  9. My first grey, a 80lb male, used to do a "poop dance" after he was done. Up in the air, twirling and hopping. I just made sure I watched him closely after he pooped, held on to the leash until he was done. I taught him to wait until I picked up the poop and tied the bag. Then he got a treat.
  10. Good news! He was adopted and is now living on the beach in NC!
  11. I had a foster that had excellent teeth, but her breath was horrid! I gave her a Pepcid every morning and that stopped the bad breath.
  12. Buckeystown Vet Hospital ask for Brooke Loewenstein or Emmitsburg Vet Hospital ask for Dr. Jennifer MacDonald. The second is my vet and the first is the vet of a very good friend of mine. Between the two of us, our vets have dealt with many things Greyhound! I also know that there are numerous greyhounds that go to both practices. Edited to say that these are not emergency vets. I have used the above e-vet and they were great.
  13. A friend of mine gave her dog a smoked bone and $5000 later the blockage was removed. All of the pieces lodged. They scare me! Marrow bones.
  14. Please no smoked or cooked bones! If you can't find turkey necks, try chicken backs. Just cut off excess fat. I get my turkey necks from the butcher at the farmer's market. www.bestbullysticks.com has great prices on bully sticks. I don't find them soft. Marrow bones are readily available in grocery stores.
  15. Someone had three littermate puppies at GIG a few years ago. One was blind or blind in one eye or something like that. I think they were up for adoption. I saw one of them in Dewey after that. I know someone that has one in Lessburg VA. She's beautiful!
  16. You can try pumpkin also. 100% canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix. Yogurt can make it worse if they are lactose intolarent.
  17. Fresh Factors and Joint Health here too! I've had a few senior returns come through my house and it really worked for them. My 12 yr old girl does very well on them. I tried Longevity and they didn't like it. It's really green and I guess it made there food look funny. I think I have another tub of it. PM me your address and I'll send it to you. I have no use for it.
  18. I had a foster that had 12 corns hulled. The poor thing couldn't walk until he came out of the vet's office! He pranced out! His adopter's only have to have one done every now and then. Thera paws are your answer.
  19. Midwest Lifestyle crates. Folding and two doors are a must! If you are a prime member on Amazon, that a great place to buy them. Ebay is good too. Just watch the shipping.
  20. This is all good to know. The dog I'm talking about is a foster, so I want to get as much info as possible.
  21. Thanks to everyone! Yes this is the dog with DI, but DI will not affect his sight. It's completely different than the blood related diabetes. He was born with it, so he has been losing his sight little by little all of his life, which makes it easier for him. He really gets around well. I don't treat him any different than the others. He does get stuck in small spaces and sometimes corners. He is the best dog!
  22. Thank you! He responds very well to voice commands. He is a foster (a return) and the first adopter didn't even know he couldn't see. I noticed within a day. He's the sweetest boy and is enjoying life!
