  1. My experience has been that they can't be on them for extended periods. Yes, they drink more, then of course they have to pee more. My male acted like he was starving and even counter surfed - which he never did and does not do since he has been off the preds. Cushings is one thing you have to look out for.
  2. A few weeks ago I posted for a friend that is having problems with her grey. After numerous tests and a sonogram the vet really doesn't have any ideas. Any ideas from anyone here? Significant weight loss over 2 -3 months normal blood work no evidence of IBD on sonogram significantly enlarged spleen, waiting for cytology result - vet aware that the spleen in greys are larger, but this is larger than normal no vomiting or diarrhea Thanks in advance, Nichole
  3. Vet America has great prices on them.
  4. I've used the old fashion rollers - with the bristles taken out - and vet wrap it the whole way up. I leave the wound unwrapped to get air and apply liquid bandage - the spray kind. Also have used the end of the travel toohbrush container thing - it has a hole in the end to allow for air. Nichole
  5. There is a Cushings Yahoo Group. I'm sure you could find what you need from those that have experienced it. Sorry, should have read the posr above mine!
  6. My boy was on pred and azathioprine for awhile too. As everyone said symptoms will stop as dosage is lowered. But the azathioprin made him lose his hair. I mean bald! I stopped it. I then took him to a holistic vet and she put him on Chinese herbs. After a year he is off of them and his mouth is completely cleared up. We are keeping an eye on it and will do maitenance if we need to.Wish I would have done it sooner, the poor boy lost his muscle.
  7. I don't know if Turbotainia ( Meredith) was referring to me or not, but Kiaba's turned out not to be stomatitis. They thought it was. We even did a biopsy with no results. Go to the OSU newsletter of Spring 2007 and look at the picture of his mouth. This is what I was dealing with. Since he has been on a Chinese herb - Jade Lady - and changed diet he is under control. I won't go into the whole thing, but his problems have to do with "hot" and "cold" proteins. No grains, soy, beef, venison or anything that is considered hot protein. Nichole
  8. I use the stuff to put in the water. Yes, it works wonders, but don't expect it to work overnight. Make sure you get a bottle big enough so you don't interrupt the cycle. I buy the big one and it lasts a long time.
  9. Rhonda, Hugs and prayers from you neighbor across the way! Nichole, Kiaba & Tehya
  10. Rhonda, Prayers sent from across the way! Nichole, Kiaba and Tehya
  11. Isn't Dr. K wonderful?! I'm considering switching and I live 1 1/2 hours from her!
  12. Look at the roof of his mouth. My boy, Kiaba has been battling some kind of infection for months and he does this when it gets worse. The roof of Kiaba's mouth is inflamed, red and has bumps. Similiar to stomatitis, but that's not what it is. And if this is the problem, please let me know what your vet says. Kiaba has gone through a bunch of meds and nothing makes it go away. Plus the side effects of some of the meds are not good. Good Luck, Nichole
  13. OMG! Kiaba got one the other night and he chewed it up so nicely, that I didn't worry about it. His siter cmae along and cleaned up the crumbs. No problems after at all! Will watch corn cobs more! Actually, I think that is they only thing he ever took out of a trash bag.
  14. Sorry I spelled colic wrong, but anyway, yes it is a horrible experience in horses. There are many old wives tales for horses to give them, but walking is the best. I walked a mare that had delivered a stillborn foal, for hours! In fact we took turns for eight hours. She made it, so it was worth it. You don't want them to lay down. They will roll and twist their stomach. Unlike cows, this can not be corrected surgically. Cows have four stomachs after all!
  15. deadfleaz.com You will have to use your own judgement on this. You can read everything on their site.
  16. Bloat is very similiar to "colick" in horses. We always had to cool them off before feeding and watering, and no hard exercise after eating or drinking a lot of water. I'm sure there are a few horse people here and they can relate to the horrible event.
  17. Hey - was Soba Southern Comfort? He's on there, if so. I know we got Southern Comfort - or was he Zucchini? Yup, definitely something he'd do Southern Comfort is Zucchini
  18. There's also a list for Raynham and Wonderland. Meredith - there are many that I recognized, my girl for one, both Inu and Salem, Oni, Jordan, Gemstone,Topaz and Zucchini.
  19. I use the Avon Skin so Soft sunscreen with the tick and bug repellent in it.
  20. Pill pockets. They are wonderful. They make them for cats and dogs. At pet stores they can be pricey. Look around online.
