  1. That girl is strong! Keep getting better Cali, I'll see you soon.
  2. My friend Vicky, GT member bluesky's Cali was taken to the vet at 4:00 am with HGE. Cali just finished chemo on Thursday for osteo. Cali had her right front leg amputated on June 9th, then contracted an infection in her left back leg. Antibiotic treatment delayed the start of the chemo until August 12th. She's done very well with her chemo with one slight reaction at the beginning. Yesterday Cali threw up her dinner early in the morning. She refused breakfast and was lethargic, none of these are unusual when you've had chemo. She had diarhea later in the day, again not unusual. Early this morning, it was bloody and she was panting and drooling so off to the evet. Cali has had HGE before, which makes her more likely to get it again. With her lowered white counts due to the chemo her resistance is low. She needs our prayers. Vicky will update us when she talks to the vet. Come Cali Girl, you can beat this! Here is Cali's Story Cali and her vet tech during her final chemo treatment
  3. Kelly, I'm glad to see even a small improvement. Keep fighting Lexi, you have a big cheering section here.

    Always remembered!
  5. Kelly, you and Lexi have been in my thoughts off and on all day. I know you have experience, but it has to be so much worse when it is your own. If she will tolerate it, try spooning small amounts (tsp or so) into her. I'd only do very small amounts at a time then wait to see if she tolerates it before pushing it harder. Hang in there!
  6. Dani, I'm sorry that you found GT this way. But, I'm glad you did find us and found the help you needed. I enjoyed out chat last night, and I'll be here if and when you need me. Star is beautiful!
  7. Oh no! I am so sorry! Cora was beautiful! Godspeed Cora You were loved so very much.
  8. I can't PM you, but if you want to talk, I can call you. You can email me at hopeforhounds @ casualbling.com (just remove the spaces)
  9. Not at all. Only that she is a racing greyhound, not a greyhound that raced.
  10. I would haveyour vet, or you conuslt with OSU. Dr Couto and his team at the Greyhound Health and Wellness Program are, in my opinion, THE people to talk to about cancer in greyhounds. Amputation is a very personal decision, and one that is very difficult. I'm asked of ten what I would do, and the answer will be different for each of my hounds. I do know that in a young and otherwise healthy greyhound I would be likely to do it. Amputation withouut chemo will only give you time that is pain free once the healing from the surgery is complete. Chemo can give you time. Chemo is available free from OSU to any retired racing greyhound. If you do a search, you will see that there are a few on the board here either finished, or undergoing treatment. You'll find the link to contact OSU at the bottom of my siggy. If you want info about OSU and the Greyhound Health and Wellness Program, click on the Hope for Hounds link above my siggy.
  11. Patricia, I'm so sorry. Godspeed handsome man
  12. Seriously! Did you tell her she's getting a new necklace yet? Genuine fake diamonds cheer me up everytime.
  13. Glad it worked. I actually called the evet to ask for advice when I couldn't stop the bleeding. I never cut nails during a hockey game.
  14. I did this to Peanut a couple of years ago. It took 4 hours of bandaging etc. My son eventually walked to the drug store and got what finally worked - a styptic pencil then sealed it with liquid bandage. Tracey reminded me the next day that a tea bag will help clot a wound.
  15. Mary was taking her some home cooked food this afternoon. Dr Couto has also been in touch and will consult with the specialist who will see Jaynie on Monday. I don't know if you all realize, but in the middle of this Mary has been uploading the over 170 items into Alisha's auction software for the Miss Nellie Auction. That is a huge undertaking and had to be very difficult to focus on with this medical crisis going on.
  16. I know you are relieved she is now at the full hour clinic. Hopefully we will start getting answers soon, or who knows she could just be "all better", that's what I'm prayig for. Talk to you later today.
  17. Relieved for you. Stay positive take one day at a time. Just like Smiley.
  18. If you haven't already, get hold of Dr C Mary. This is the sort of case they are very good at puzzling through. I thinkOSU uses the lab in North Carolina for tick testing. It's definitely an odd situation. You have my prayers, let me know if there is anything at all I can do.
  19. Okay, so little steps in the right direction. I think they likely gave her dexmathasone. Dexamethasone is used systemically in high doses in emergency situations for anaphylactic reactions, spinal chord trauma, or shock. It is used in the management and treatment of immune mediated disease such as immune mediated hemolytic anemia, or thombocytopenia: some cancers: allergic reactions such as asthma, hives, and itching: inflammatory diseases and some neurologic diseases. Dexamethasone is also used topically in the treatment of a variety skin and eye problems.
  20. Foxy had a tumor in almost exactly the same place. Hers was on the outer side of her leg. The fluid your described sounds so familiar. We had the tumor removed and she was diagnosed with hemangiopericytoma. It is a blood vessel tumor that is slow to metastasize. The location is also likely for a synovial sarcoma. I would have your vet contact OSU, the link for info is at the bottom of my siggy. Foxy had her tumnor removed at almost 10, she lived another 4 years, and also had LP. She didn't die of either one though.
  21. I am so bummed about this. I will be in Georgia for Sandy Paws.
  22. Thought you all might like t know that Cathie talked to Tracey. They are still at the vet's. Chase is having a full blood panel and an EKG. He is acting normal, for Chase that is - the big Goober! Keep praying. They need to know what happened and that it won't happen again.
  23. I wonder if Traumeel would help her Mary. If you have the cream you could massage that in. The drops are good too, but local might be better in this instance. I've used that along with whatever Jake is getting for his leg, whichever one is swollen at the moment. (today it's the back left. )
