  1. Thank you for your kind thoughts, they seem to have worked. He is slightly gimpy for the first couple of strides upon standing and then the limp is hardly noticable, so he may have got off lightly. A week or so strict rest should do the trick. The wrist is quite puffy but having had bad sprains myself I think that is to be expected. Thanks again
  2. Johnny has injured his right wrist, I am hoping it is just a nasty sprain, but if he becomes non-weight bearing on that leg he will have to go back to the vets for x-rays. The vet says he has an "extra" lump on the front of his wrist but could not be sure if it was related to this injury or the result of an old injury, I phoned Croftview to ask Cheryl if she knew of any previous injury to that leg and she said she could not recall one. Your best good healing thoughts would be most appreciated. I just took him out for his potty break about 2 hours after his first dose of Metacam and he did seem much less lame, hopefully this will continue. I am icing the leg for ten minutes in every hour also. It's a bummer as I am on half term holiday this coming week and I was going to spend lots of time walking him and doing some more off-leash training with him. Healing thoughts and any advice always welcome.
  3. I use the one arm round the chest and one round the butt method too, I can't bring myself to do the arm under the tuck as I worry it squishes their poor tummies....but I know other people who do it so it's probably just me being silly. I think it also depends how big your dog is and how long your arms are. Remember to bend your knees and keep your back straight.
  4. I have used lemon juice or vinegar on wasp stings and bicarbonate of soda on bee stings, it seemed to take away the pain (and it won't harm them if they lick it).
  5. When I think of some of the dogs that belong to my neighbours I would say that the life that you give your boy is pretty close to doggy heaven by comparison. Greyhounds have been bred to have short bursts of exercise interspersed with lots of sleeping, they are equally good at both! You clearly spend plenty of time interacting with him and including him in activities, what more does he need?
  6. I am so sorry. The beautiful pics are a testament to the long and happy life that you shared. Run fast and free with all the angel pups Wren.
  7. I haven't had personal experience but I have been told that Zylkene is good . It is a natural product derived from milk protein.
  8. This made me laugh...I can just hear Biggie saying "I'll get my coat" and it really isn't hygienic to drink your own bathwater...glad to hear that he is improving, my girl Sadi had quite severe space aggression issues, I really miss not being growled at now.
  9. My boy Scully also broke his hock when he was young, he limped slighly at walking/trotting pace but could still run like the wind. The vet said it never had any sign of arthritis but there could have been nerve damage as the joint was dislocated when it broke.
  10. Enjoy each of those days that you have, Sukie will not judge you for what you have to do. I lost my sweet girl Sadi last year, it was just that her old body was too tired to go on, it was so hard.
  11. It would be better, not to mention cheaper, to teach him not to pull. It just takes a little time and effort but it's so worth it. There are plenty of training resources regarding this available online. I taught Johnny not to pull in less than 24 hours from bringing him home, even when there are exciting things like bunnies about!
  12. I am so sorry. Reading your tribute for your lovely girl it was almost word for word what would have been in my tribute for my angel Sadi...we adopted her a week short of her sixth birthday and she was with us until a couple of months after her fourteenth birthday, even the stubborn and quirky bit. If it's any consolation at least Tori will have someone at the bridge who is quite a lot like her, I do hope they become friends. I just love the sofa pic where she's blowing a raspberry at you
  13. I had two boys, but from pups. They squabbled a bit at adolescence but once that was over they were fine. Luckily they had very different personalities so they did their own thing. I think that you should be okay as long as you don't try to impose the" pecking order" and with dogs( boys) it does seem that if they do have a little falling out they soon get over it and get on with life, unlike bitches who tend to never let it go. Two isn't really harder than one, except when they are on leash and decide they both want to go in opposite directions!
  14. The halti is as much a training tool as any leash, collar or harness, its purpose is to allow you to control the dog while you are training it, no device is going to help you if you dont actually do the training with it. I have never had trouble fitting a grey with a halti either.
  15. I would use a Halti, but I don't know if you can get them or something similar in your part of the world? I used one for Sadi, it gives much better control as you can put the dogs head where you want it, I used it with a special leash with a clip at either end, one attached to the halti and the other to the collar.
  16. I have not had time to read all the replies but I would say that she is just a little lean, probably will fill out a bit as she matures. The bowing and head turning are "calming signals", it's just doggy language, do a google search for a fuller explanation (sorry , a bit pushed for time)
  17. I am so sorry. I know only too well the feeling of having done something for the best only for it to turn out for the worst. We can only do what our hearts tell us, your girl would not think any the less of you. Cherish your wonderful years of memories.
  18. Sounds delicious what time do you start serving? But seriously, I dont see what harm it can do. As far as whether to fillet the fish, I have not ever cooked fish in a crockpot but i suspect that if given sufficient cooking time it can soften chicken bones then it can probably do the same for fish. I only would worry that a prolonged time might reduce some of the nutritional value, but on the other hand it is all sealed in with the crockpot so may not be the case.
  19. What a beautiful tribute to your little girl. I am so sorry that she had to leave you. Btw. I love the expression "returning her to the universe", that is just how I have felt when I have had to say goodbye, the physical body may be gone but the "essence" becomes part of the universe. Lovely.
  20. I dont know if it increases the efficacy of the ingredients, as far as I have learned it is a preservative, I suppose whether there is any actual alcohol left in the finished product depends on how much it is heated?
  21. It is good to hear that your memories of your lovely Frisby are making you smile, I am sure he would love that. We never do have them for long enough, but when you think of all the sweet memories I know it is an experience which makes the pain worthwhile.
  22. Btw. My comment re not molly coddling was not meant to imply that you should not pet her, I expect that like me, you spend most of your time petting her, just when something is scaring her try not to make it a big deal, just be happy and upbeat and she will soon catch on that if you are not worried she doesn't need to be.
  23. I hope you had a wonderful birthday Max, send your Mom and Dad a rainbow if you can, they miss you.
