  1. Not at all. I like that blue shirt you are wearing by the way.
  2. Of course I did I look at everything you post Judy, I am sort of a secret stalker, shh don't tell. I think that would be better than the opaque one she has now, but still would probably freak her out. There are some good alternatives out there, soft e collars, one that looks like a foam flower around their neck etc, but the problem of course is I need something NOW I am hopeful the muzzle will do the trick. She really isnt too much of a licker so usually just a small deterrent is necessary. Usually just a bandage or sock will do the trick, if she doesn't see the boo boo she doesn't try to get it. The vet just threw a wrench in my usual routine by saying she wanted it open to the air.
  3. It was an old post of your's Judy that gave me the 'bite not' style towel idea, unfortunately being right on the outside toe and greys being such pretzel pups, she can still reach her toe without bending her neck a Greyhound Superhero (Jiffer) is coming to our rescue and bringing a muzzle. The pantyhose is working out well but I am leaving for holidays on Sunday and although DH will be with Stella, he works 10 hour shifts so our neighbour will be coming by every day and visiting with her and taking her out to potty, I didn't want to be trying to instruct my neighbour on cutting out pantyhose, taping them on etc
  4. Oh good. So far it isn't. I put it on last night before I went to bed and I checked it this morning and it was dry and loose still.
  5. Oh JFB Lots of prayers and good strong energy on the way to Scooty from Stella and I. I am a big fan of 'visualization' (one of the tricks us granola eating tree huggers use) so every day between now and next thursday whenever I log onto GT I will picture myself reading the thread that says 'Scooter is fine, it's benign"
  6. I originally posted this under EEG but have new questions so this seemed more appropriate. Stella's toe is still taped in place at the end of the toe and nail (following surgery to re-set it after dislocation) but the vet has removed the bandage because there is an open wound on the side of her toe that the doc wants exposed to air to help it to heal. She is taking antibios too as this wound went right to the bone She gave me an e collar to keep Stella from licking the wound when I am not there to supervise her. Stella completely freaked. I know that no dogs 'like' them but she was truly panicked and I had to take it off. I tried rolling a towel and taping it around her neck, in the 'bite not' format but this wound is on the side of her toe on her rear leg and because she is a gumby when she lays on her side her rear legs actually go up in front of her head, so not turning her head won't stop her from licking. SIGH. I don't have a muzzle because I donated it back to the group Stella came from shortly after we got her, because she is an only dog and I couldn't imagine any use I would have for it I could order one but there isn't anyplace nearby, Cambridge is closest I can find so far, and I can't wait that long. For now what I did was cut out a leg from some pantyhose and put that over her foot and up her leg and taped it. She doesn't lick if there is something on it. Do you think that is 'breathable' enough to let the air heal the wound ?????
  7. Stella's weren't sutured but like Dr. Bill said above, that was because there wasn't enough tissue to suture. Since they weren't she needed a long course of antibiotics as well as a daily rinse with novadent on the sockets as they healed.
  8. We miss your babes right along with you Jacki And I miss having you here, your warped sense of humour always gave me a laugh when I needed it and your kindness when Faith was coming home has earned you a permanent place on my 'friends' list
  9. Oh JFB that sucks, nothing like nice advance notice from your boss!!!
  10. Awww. Stella and I send good thoughts and prayers for Scooty
  11. Awww, give him another cookie, look how cute he is! Stella has a pink bandage they would make a great photo duet
  12. Poor girly. We have something in common, remember all my posts about my muscle twitchiness in the bar Potassium and Calcium were the doc suggested remedies for me too.
  13. Thanks guys. I picked her up last night and my vet said that she had sedated her and put the joint back in place and taped it to the next toe for stability then bandaged up to above the knee. I have to go back on Thursday for a bandage change. She also told me she was sending me with Clindomycin. I asked why I need antibios for a taped toe and she said did you notice that sore on the side of her paw. I said yes I did and she said that it is exposed bone :eek At this point I just blurted out "OMG that was there when I took her in how the @#$# could the other vet have missed this" and she just said "I don't know but she is going to be fine" I emailed the other clinic and am awaiting a response. Stella had a hard time coming out of the sedation, she was loopy most of the night, wouldn't eat, staring at nothing with her ears up, whining etc. I felt so bad for her. I slept on the couch by her bed so she wouldn't get confused and be all alone. This morning she is her normal self, waiting for breakfast, snarfed her antibios down with some PB etc. She is not happy to have the bandage on and is being Diva Dramatic about it, goose stepping. Thanks to you guys for letting me vent and a big thanks to Batmom and Pam who were online just when I needed them.

    Oscar

Oh no, I am so sorry Mare I wish there was anything that could be said that would help, but there isn't. So many of us feel like we knew Oscar through your diaries and we will miss him too. Hugs to you and I know that although thinking of Osc will give you lots of tears right now, I also now that his memory will give you so very much to smile about. That big goofy grin that he brings out in people is part of his legacy. See you later Oscar
  15. Okay I am back at the office and Stella is still at the vets My vet said 'is this what it looked like when you took her yesterday' yes. She said it is clearly not in place and she can't believe they said it was okay. So as I figured she wants to x ray to make sure it isn't fractured if it is not then she needs to sedate to reset as it is strongly out of place and has been for at least a full day. I am really annoyed about the vet from yesterday. Plus my face is frozen from the dentist which isn't doing much to improve my mood. I know a toe isn't a big deal compared to the serious stuff so many are facing so forgive my whining please, I just don't like to see my girly in pain and I also am just annoyed that I took her to a vet, stressed her out and subjected her to some extra pain yesterday all for nothing.
  16. Good luck today Loca, you will have pretty smiles and nice breath for mom when you are done.
  17. Stella is at work with me right now, and she is not happy about it My vet opens in 7 minutes. Thanks for all the replies and Thankx Marc, I am good, just frustrated with yesterday's shenanigans. ON further reflection, because I like to give the vet credit that he would have known if it was still dislocated I THINK what might have happened is vet looks at it, pronounces it in place but nail twisted, vet leaves and sends tech in with instructions to cut the nail back. Tech picks up paw and cuts nail, I don't know if he told her why she was doing that, so she quicked her, did two cuts, I am pretty sure when Stella saw the second one coming she tried to pull her paw away, probably re-dislocated it then. Vet never came back in to check again. But I am just taking a wild guess
  18. Sorry I didn't word that very well, I didn't mean which should they do tape or splint, I meant shouldn't they do one of those - something to hold it in place.
  19. When she is walking it doesnt look like she is limping, but I can tell she is not walking normally plus it looks like the side of the toe is getting a sore on it, she is probably walking on the side of it. Should they tape it or splint it or something when they get it back in place???
  20. AAAARGH Okay called a local vet that was open today and took Stella in. He looked at her toe, felt it, said it was in place but the nail was twisted so he trimmed it way down past the quick, told me to give her metacam and leash walk only for a week. Said she will have stretched out the ligaments and it will be sore. This cost $60 which I thought was fine Until I got home. Let Stell leash walk slowly around front yard to pee. Go in and she lays down. About an hour later Dh comes in, takes a look and says "Carolyn, wth did the vet do, her toe is still out" I told him vet says it isn't he says the joint is in place. Dh says come here, look at this, her toe is pointed under the other toe beside and if you look at the bottom of her foot, the pad too us curled around and under the toe. Could he have been wrong about it being in place? Can it be in place yet still be pointing the wrong way and curled under like that? Could it have put itself in place for the 10 minutes we were there and then gone back out again on the ride home??? I am frustrated and feel bad for my girlie. I will bring her to work with me in the morning and call my own vet as soon as it opens.
