  1. I couldn't find anything with that name, but did find a lot when searching for simply "impetigo" A few links: http://animalpetdoctor.homestead.com/bacterialskin.html From another site: http://www.vin.com/proceedings/Proceedings...0&O=Generic
  2. I'd email Ohio State and see if there is any other treatment available. Having taken pred myself for 6 years, I know how it can be. I've been lucky, or my feeling that if they need pred they use it well without horrible side effects, could be true. Austin had muscle wasting (about 5% of his muscle) however, he was harboring cancer and was on a very low maintenance dose (10 mg a day). Has he been tested for TBDs? (all of them) edited to add: what is the step down dose plan you are suppose to do? I've been told if they have not been on it over 10 days you can take them down fairly quick.
  3. Why is he on the pred? I've had numerous greys on pred with no noticable side effects from the pred. Let's see if I can remember this right The theraputic dose (I hope that is the correct terminology) is 1 mg per # of body weight per day. Usually try to taper off after a week, but of course it depends on what the problem is.
  4. You'd better ask a vet. Over doing in calcium can cause serious heart problems from what I remember. There is also a calcium/phosphorus balance that has to be right. It also depends on what you are feeding. A home cooked diet, for instance, needs calcium added. Natural Diet comments OMH on minerals Calcium - It's Role In Nutrition From the Great Dane site: Low Calcium Diets and Growth
  5. Wish you were close so I could give you a big hug. Sending my sympathy. I know how much it hurts to lose a friend
  6. Perhaps rescue remedy? It is available at a health food store. However, I think if it's taking that many people to hold him down, he needs a valium or ace. When I picked up Ace for Tootsie, the vet had on there: 1 1/2 twice a day. They were 25mg pills! Needless to say we started with 1/2 and that is all she needs. If I would have given her 1 1/2 she would not have moved for 24 hours.
  7. You must talk to a vet about meds before trying something because of his condition. I've used benedryl. Because of his condition, I might try 10-12 mg of ace, or perhaps valium, but again because of the seriousness of his condition, ask the vet what they think. That said, Mahogany goes to the vet to get her nails done She has to be sedated to remove corns and trim nails. have you updated Ohio State by email?
  8. Did you try Kim Lynch or one of the others I listed? Usually, if a dog is critical they will fit them in. CHI certified: Kim Lynch, DVM, CVA St. Louis, MO 63130, USA Tele: (314)721-6251 Fax: (314)721-7513 Email: kvet@mic.net
  9. Are you using a towel to help her walk? I'd call the acupuncture vet first thing in the morning. Since she is also a vet, she should be able to help, both with treatment and instructions. The fact someone else knew one of the vets I listed, I'd go with her. Sending prayers.
  10. Hoping it is going well. When you asked "who is the Chen vet?" it was a vet I listed in this thread: http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showtopic=171968
  11. Yes. Make sure it's pure saline and not contact cleaner. Sport had a problem when I was there in April and saline cleaned it up after two days.
  12. Are you talking about the red spot not too far from your thumb? I wonder if it's one of those seed warts.
  13. Did he have a treatment yesterday?
  14. Hopefully high dose antibiotics will get something like meningitis. Hope she is doing ok this morning.

  18. Someone mentioned something similar to this because I remember the head tilt. Don't give up. If you can find an acupuncture vet to come to the house it will help a lot.
