  1. Batmom's advice about a bladder collection is a good one and also culture the urine! If you don't give the right antibiotic, it won't clear up. Sending prayers.
  2. Sending prayers. Artemisinin (there is a group on yahoo) has been used with success for those with osteo. Might help. Email Ohio State and ask
  3. This is something you would have to ask Dr. Stack
  4. As Dr. Stack says "all positive erlichia titres should be treated". That is why I would do a tick panel. Not knowing her blood work results, it's hard to say whether or not she is symptomatic. A drop in platelets, HCT and RBC can be an indicator. Far too often, a dog crashes before people and vets see "symptoms". Which is why I chart my guy's blood work Also, far too many dogs come up with a negative result (ususally North Carolina) and respond to doxy.
  5. If this was a simple snap test, I strongly suggest you do a tick panel. Protatek does a full panel for greyhounds for $62. If, for instance, she also has babesia, she would need an imizol injection which would also take care of erlichia. Doxy will not take care of babesia (or Valley Fever).
  6. Annie finished her doxy treatment the end of March and it was a very long 8 weeks Three stomach meds, EVO canned and EVO kibble along with fried turkey kept her weight on (as well as hand feeding.....) Huston and Pablo did doxy with no trouble. Are you doing 5mg per # of body weight twice a day?
  7. Not good Anne & Kylie can use prayers.
  8. Sending my sympathy Run like the wind sweet girl.
  9. From the DPCA website: DNA Labs On the above list is Vet Gen with a phone number. I bet if you call them they can help you.
  10. Lifting them if they don't freak with all 4 feet off the ground many times works. Some of you remember Mahogany, one of my brood moms. She went to the vet to have her nails done. First dog in 35 years I couldn't do. The breeder said she had always been like that. She had a good life before coming to me so I know she was not mistreated. I did not feel comfortable sedating her at home. I tried the usual generic type drugs benedryl, Calm Spirit and valium to no avail. Have you tried a peanut butter muzzle? Put the muzzle on with pb and do one nail. Start out slow.
  11. April 30, 2009 Hi Diane, I hope you are all doing well and surviving the heat. Last night, at 3 AM, the fan by the bed stopped! Immediately, Winslow jumped up and started panting (nevermind that it was 65 degrees in the house). I got up, opened the back door and more windows and tried to go back to bed. Nope, he stood over me, tongue hanging out, dripping on my forehead. By now, it was 63 degrees. Ok, I got up, went downstairs and got another fan.. brought it in and put it by the bed. He immediately got back in bed, roached up on his back and that was that. This boy just cannot sleep without his fan. It could be freezing in here and he would still need that fan. It just cannot be turned off, ever. I think he has an emotional attachment to it that goes deeper than we thought. Today, under Winslow's close scrutiny, I fixed his fan, but am on my way out to buy another for backup. How many fans do we need? It's not like we don't have AC... and it's not even hot. Current Temp 55. High today-62. Winslow says he's not moving to Texas. G.
  12. Get some EVO canned and see how he does! Sending prayers.
  13. Praying the burden of guilt and pain lifts and you will see the "I'm ok" sign she is trying to send to you.
  14. Sending my sympathy You did everything you could. It's just not up to us. He's running free.
  15. It's not so much whether it is in your state, but rather where the dog was whelped, trained and ran.
  16. Many of the NSAIDs say if there is appetite depression to stop the med immediately. When Annie was on doxy, we used zantac, Quiet Digestion (chinese herb combination), carafate, EVO canned and EVO reduced fat kibble and hand fed her. She also got fried (in butter) turkey every night. Actually, she still gets the aforementioned......and we still hand feed her.....
  17. All three meds can upset the stomach, especially metacam and tramadol. Why is she on those? I've been lucky in that none of mine have had a problem with baytril.
  18. Don't even want to guess I use a PUR filter on the faucet and it works well. Since I started doing that, UTIs cut to almost nonexistant! Sending prayers
  19. Which antibiotic is he on? Is he taking stomach meds too?
  20. I believe similar manner. Do not let them put a hard cast on! Sending prayers.
