  1. I found this WebMaster Harness very useful Harness but it will go under the belly somewhat. The good thing is it's padded and you can lift a dog up by this harness, you can also leave it on, and it's very easy to put on, without having to lift feet.

  4. Yes, what everyone else said, I adopted Spud when my son was 9 years old, and he grew up with dogs, very dog savy kid. We quickly learned not to pet Spud when he was on his bed, or lying down in general, when my son had friends over I would muzzle Spud, just because I can't trust that other kids knew how to act. When all the kids sat around the living room playing video games, Spud would be on his bed nearby, but if the kids starting getting too close to his bed he would growl, they would move over. Over time Spud learned that we are not a thread to him, and my son especially made an effort to desensitize him by slowly over time moving closer, now we can pet him even when he is on his bed, I still don't when he is asleep though.
  5. It's excitement, not aggression, but if any part of you gets caught in it, it still hurts. Darla used to do this right before dinner time, and sometimes she got my backside.....

  8. I would not take my Grey to a general dog park, however, Sunday mornings at my neighborhood dog park a fenced off section is for Greyhounds only, and all dogs are muzzled, so I take him there.

    Guilt And Loss

I am so very sorry for your loss, please don't doubt that you did the right thing, it is never harder to be a grown-up that at times like these, but someone has to be the person kind enough to put an end to suffering. I'm sorry it had to be you this time, but you did what you had to, and you had to be strong, and I know it is hard. It's ok to fall apart afterwards, it's ok to cry, but don't second guess yourself, dogs don't care how long they live, they only care that the life they have is a good one, and you provided that, a good life for your girl. I know it's a big deal right now, but it will get better, hugs to you.
  12. When Spud first arrived here, he had space aggression, my DS's friends would be over and play video games, and if one came too close to Spud's dog bed, he would growl. That did go away, we gave him space, and nobody bugged him on his bed, but over time we moved closer, and now we can sit on his dog bed and pet him, he is fine. Now the bark, he did that too, whenever he wanted something, like going outside, or be fed. not aggressive, but he let out one loud woof, right in my face, and it would send me into orbit, every single time. I think over time he just got that it startled me, he is not doing it anymore, I'm not even sure when that stopped, I think when I got a second Grey, and he noticed she communicated much quieter, yet effectively. I think I probably let out a startled shriek over the barks, so maybe try that, but mostly over time, he will come to realize there is no need to be worried about being disturbed while sleeping, they just need to get used to it. I would not let him sleep in the bed until he is bombproof, in fact, I don't to this day, mostly because I don't want 75 pounds of dead weight in my bed, he is quite happy to sleep on his dog bed, most of the time not even in my bed room.
  13. I wouldn't fret over it, I have no opinion on whether it was helpful, but I would dare say it didn't do any harm.
  14. That's funny, I always used to think it's a Spud thing, but at GIG I realized it IS a Grey thing, "move" works well for us, but pick any word and he will get it. Spud must think "move" is his middle name....it's not just doorways, if I need to open the fridge, he will be in front of it, same with the oven, cabinets, etc.

  17. At Home Depot or Lowe's you can get cheap indoor/outdoor carpet, it comes in big rolls, 6 feet wide, and you can get it by the foot. Not pretty, but it should do the trick, it is rubber backed, I used it to cover a wooden ramp, no sliding. Also, you want to keep the nails as short as possible, they tend to slip more when the nails are touching the floor. This might be less expensive than buying rubber backed rugs, they are surprisingly pricey sometimes, though, I have those too, the nice part is, they can be thrown in the washer if needed.
  18. I saw this earlier and had some superior thoughts, but wisely kept them to myself......then Spud comes back in from a short trip in the yard, and i noticed a tick on his chest, when I pulled it off blood splattered everywhere, ewwww. Now I check the rest of him and DS finds another one on his leg, I tried, and tried, and it won't come off. Yep. Blood blister. Not feeling so superior now.
