  1. Breakfast around 6am, dinner around 5-6pm,1 cup each.
  2. Took Karma to a M&G yesterday and white fur was flying everywhere....
  3. Could be lots of things, a few months back Karma started limping, I took her in for x-rays, they showed nothing, turns out she had injured her achilles heel, she needed rest, no jumping or running for a few weeks, it's all better now. Karma is 10, so yes, I freaked out for a bit, but she is fine now. My vet had an orthopedic surgeon come in for a second opinion......hope it's nothing...we almost had surgery done on Karma for a luxating patella, which is what my vet suspected first, the OS changed her mind after pointing out how rare that is in Greys.
  4. If you find something that works for your dogs, absolutely go with it. Fed Iams here for some time without any problems, it may "technically" not be the best food, but if you get firm poops when you didn't get them before, it is the best. (This does not sound right, but you all get what I mean )
  5. Hi Alexus, welcome to GT, and the world of Greyhounds! Thanks for coming here to ask for help, sounds like Ross has some separation anxiety, and it is excellent that you are currently home, that gives you a chance to do some alone training. Look for the book "I'll be home soon!" by Patricia McConnell, it will explain it all better than I could. When we adopted Karma about 18 months ago, she had some anxiety at first, when my son left for school in the morning she would stand by the door and whine, she did the same thing when I left. She would do this even with another Grey and another human in the house, she had finally found her people, and she did not like anyone leaving. We made it a point to have very low key good-byes (like none, just took my purse and keys and left), and the same coming back. After a few weeks she stopped whining, then she no longer stood by the door, until one glorious morning, my son left and she didn't even get up! Anyway, find that book, it is a very short book, with some very valuable advice. And, easy to implement. Good luck, she will be fine
  6. Karma can get out of anything, so just in case I clip one end of the leash to the harness, the other to her collar. I do something similar for my GP, she can turn into a freight train at times, so one end of leash goes to collar, the other to a "gentle leader". Google "euro leash" to find leashes with a clip on each end, I just ordered another one from Amazon for under $20.00. P.S. I know all about the problems with gentle leaders, just to save some of you the effort of typing
  7. As others said, I don't think they think in terms of fair......do whatever works for your pack, when I adopted Karma I had both muzzled for a while, until it was clear we had no issues. From then on both got left out, no muzzles.....When we adopted the Pyr, we crated her the first month or so, now all three stay out without problems.

I am so sorry Beth! Hugs to you and the girls....
  9. Haha, we were just cracking up because we heard a distinct "Pffffttt", it's worst when they first come home, I think nerves has a lot to do with it.
  10. tbhounds, no kidding, I had some serious talks with myself on the way to the vet, along the lines of "a limp could be anything, really, it could", just to keep from crying, I was fearing the worst. She is taking the crate better than I thought she would, she likes the soft bed in the travel crate best, so she gets to use that one....
  11. Terrain doesn't seem to matter, but it is an intermittent limp, which is more typical for SP, I will have them check for corns though, good idea.
  12. Karma started not putting weight on her right hind leg, I had the vet check it out, and she suspects a subluxated patella, she x-rayed the leg and could not find anything else. She suggested surgery and will bring an orthopedic specialist in for that, in talking to him they agreed that this is a rare diagnosis for a Greyhound, so now the specialist wants to check her out, before scheduling surgery. Anyone have experience with this? I was told recovery takes 6-8 weeks, she will need to be crated, leash walked, even walked in a sling the first week. This is Karma we are talking about, she may be 10, but she is a spaz, always jumping around, doing the crazy happy dance when I get home, running for her crate at meal time, taking 5 steps off and on the deck at once, and she does not like to spend time in her crate. I suspect the sling will not go over well.... Update: The second opinion vet concluded Karma has hurt her Achilles heel, she does NOT need surgery, she needs crate rest and leash walks. She is going to hate it either way.....
  13. Tonight I just walked the girls, since they have the most energy, and Spud literally disappeared into his crate, which tells me he did NOT want to go on a walk. At some point Karma let out a yelp, first I thought I stepped on her, or she went further than the leash...I told DS about it, and he said she has been holding up her right back paw, he noticed it the last few days....and he TOLD me, and I did not listen, pooh, I feel bad, it went under in the general craziness around here. I don't see anything obvious, but she is 10, so I am paranoid.....on the other hand, she is the one dog that jumps up on me when she gets excited, and has been doing so just yesterday...today we held on to her before the walk, so I don't know....keep your fingers crossed for her, I will see if I can get her into my vets tomorrow....please let this be just a splinter, a misstep, anything else but.... The vet thinks it is a slipping knee cap, by the time the vet saw her she was using all four legs fine, but on manipulating the knee the knee cap could be moved more than normal. For now we will try rest (no more walks) and Rimadyl, if she doesn't improve, x-rays to confirm and surgery. Never been so glad, we'll do the surgery if needed, it's only money. And she is such an active, happy girl, nobody believes she is ten.
  14. Sounds pretty normal, not that it didn't scare me at first too! We learned quickly to keep a certain distance to the dog bed Spud was on, didn't allow him on our furniture, and over time he desensitized. These days anyone can pet him while he is on his bed, though we make sure he is awake first. He still doesn't like being face to face with humans or other dogs while he is relaxing. 2.5 months is not much time with a dog who was used to living one way, and now is discovering a whole new world, it takes a few months to a year for them to come out of their shell. I get it though, I was about ready to give up on Spud, especially since when I first got him I had a 9 year old son, my son is the one who convinced me that Spud is workable, we would throw rolled up socks at him while he was sleeping, slowly over time inched closer to his dog bed, praised him for being good and tolerant, we don't even remember now when he stopped that behavior, we just know one day one of my sons friends bend over to pet Spud good bye on the way out, and our hearts skipped a beat. He did nothing! Others will probably chime in, but yes, this is very normal behavior for an ex-racer, and it will over time go away.
  15. No idea, but I ditched all wool rugs for synthetic ones with rubber backing, and I keep washable pee pads by the back door, just in case. If anyone has an accident they are considerate enough to go on the pee pads, doesn't happen often, but even the occasional accident will ruin a wool rug.
  16. Pat, I am so sorry Don Juan had to leave so soon, he was a lucky boy to have found his way to your house

    Greys Nightmare

Oh no, Lisa and Steve, I am so sorry!
  18. Oh Pat, I am so, so sorry! Gremlin was a very lucky girl to have landed in your home, she couldn't have wished for a better person to take care of her and love her
  19. I used kitty litter last winter and it was a huge mess, I was cleaning clay off my floors for months, if in doubt I would go with plain old salt.....or sand, still messy but easier to clean.
  20. Jen, you didn't do anything wrong, this is not your fault, you have no control over what is happening, you know that right? If anything you have done everything humanly possible to give Neyla the best chance, you are a GREAT mom to her and Zuri! I am so sorry you are going through this, it is so hard, and the price we all pay for loving our dogs, or loving anyone, ever, really....hugs to you and the pups, I know this is tough, but you will get through it.
  21. Jen, I liked this harness: Webmaster Harness, before I got a ramp, it worked well on in the ice and snow storms too, and for lifting a weak dog into and out of the car. Hugs to you!
  22. Well, the vet can't find anything wrong with him, it is NOT diabetes or kidneys, nor a UTI, she is sending in blood work to check for thyroid and Cushings, but she thinks it mental Somehow that would not surprise me with this boy.....
  23. This is really weird, I shall drop him at the vet's in the morning to have them check it out. Spud is fine all day, he also doesn't drink water when nobody is home....but as soon as I get home, he goes out and pees for like a minute, and from then on, about every 20 minutes he has to go out for a looooong pee, and if I don't totally pay attention at all times, he will have accidents in the house, pees a lake every time. Now, he is fine in every way, he eats, he runs, most nights he is good all night, or at most leaves me with one puddle to deal with. I've had dogs with UTI's, that usually results in many small puddles, this is different.....how can he be fine all day, but turn the faucet on in the evening? He drinks a lot lately, but only when I am home, I will keep a closer eye on the water bowl, and take it up around 8pm, but what in the world is up with this? He is a bit ashamed about this, I can see it in his face, so I won't scold him, I don't think he can help it. But I do worry, he seems to be getting a bit senile too......let's hope this a highly unusual UTI and easily fixed. Anyone have any wisdom to share?
  24. Another vote here for TOTW Pacific Stream, they are doing great on it, small, firm poops.
